We had the good fortune of connecting with Reid Cowperthwaite and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Reid, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
The most important factor behind my success has been a few different things all put together. These include my time management, my music background, and my genuine love for the job and my work. Since I’m a drummer, audio engineer, lighting engineer, and producer, I’m able to use my musical knowledge of timing in songs to mixing and master my videos. Along with this, I started videography as a passion which turned into a job. And to this day that passion remains strong as ever. I strive to make my client’s videos better and better every time, while at the same time getting their products to them in a matter of hours some time.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I have always been a creative person so there’s a lot! I started drumming about 10 years ago. From there I learned how to produce music and started making EDM. At the same time, I was working at Journey Church, Pindustry, and Cherry Hills Community Church as doing audio and lighting engineer. Senior year I picked up photography and videography as a fun little hobby. 2 years later as a sophomore going to school in Nashville, I started doing videos more and more for fun and for free. After a while people started reaching out to me to do promos, concert shoots, etc. My whole brand revolves around the fact that these videos matter just as much to me as they do to you. When you book with me I can guarantee that anything you want to get done, I can get it done just how you want. Every shoot I strive to get better and learn more that way every shoot is better and better. Overall this is a passion that turned into a job.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
We would have to go downtown to the Arts Center. My first ever photoshoot was there and for a good reason! But it isn’t Colorado if we didn’t see some mountains. So next I would have to say Keystone. Keystone has always had a special spot in my heart. Being lucky enough to be able to have a townhouse up there I was able to learn how to ski and snowboard there, and I couldn’t have chosen a better mountain with a better view. Personally, my favorite bar in all of Colorado is Pindustry. I was fortunate enough to be one of their contracted Audio Engineers 2 summers ago. This bar is full of arcade games, bowling, live concerts, and my personal favorite is their “sky deck” This is their rooftop bar that has possibly my favorite view of the mountains in all of Colorado. Strangely enough, one of the coolest places I ever did a photo shoot was out in East Colorado. I’ve done 3 trips where we have gone down east with no plan of where to go at all, and every time we have found something gorgeous in no time. I always encourage people if they have time to go somewhere out east just so they can see the gorgeous sunset over the skyline of the city with the mountains in the background. And lastly it wouldn’t be Colorado without going to Casa Bonita!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
The shoutouts could go on for days and days, but overall I would need to thank my high school teachers Justin Hitch, and Julian Clifton, and my drum teacher Greg Wilson. As I said one thing that differentiates me a lot from other videographers especially is that I try to always be as friendly as possible, while staying professional, on time, and consistent. These 3 teachers together taught me from a young age how to combine my skills with my personality most efficiently and productively, which I can confidently say is how I have been able to build up my clients.
