We had the good fortune of connecting with Renae McBride and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Renae, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
In 2008 my mother developed psoriasis, she tried many doctors, creams, and medications. She came across natural soap as an option to help ease the effects of her condition. I never heard of, “natural soap” I started to do research and then took a natural soap-making class at the community college. From there I went to herbalism school to learn the properties of plants, essential oils, and how they can help our bodies in the natural healing process. I then developed my own soap recipe through trial and error that took 2 years to develop.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
My business was born out of an idea to help others as I was already helping my mother with her psoriasis, but it has evolved into so much more. I have grown and so has my business, the market has evolved. Women are evolving and changing, wanting to develop their own sense of freedom outside of their businesses or offices, and we want to encourage and support women to try something new, to be bold, to ride free.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If my friend was visiting for a week, depending upon the season I would take her to Evergreen Lake which is home for me. If in the summer we would kayak, if in winter walk around the lake and take in the serenity. Visit downtown Evergreen shops, stop at the Muddy Buck for coffee, and hit Little Bear at night for a band. In addition, Elk Meadow Park for a hike and then hop on I-70 and head to Glenwood Springs for the hot springs at Iron Mountain. After staying the night in town and soaking head back to Evergreen.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to dedicate my shoutout to Girl’s Ride Toosday. We recently came upon this group through a mutual friend who passed away tragically at the age of 25. She was a bright light in the community, an avid mountain biker, and motocross enthusiast. I was at a crossroads with my company, going through a rebrand and uncertainty when I saw a “bike giveaway” and it was the bike of my friend. I contacted Girl’s Ride Toosday and learned our late friend’s parents donated the bike as a giveaway to encourage other women to get out and ride. This hit home for me, so I quickly became a sponsor and realized my mission with my business is to give back to women to get them out on the trails, whether that is mountain biking, skiing, or motocross. My friend helped me with my soap company years ago, setting up a booth at Columbine High School, which is another reminder that life is fragile.
