We had the good fortune of connecting with Rich Efird and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Rich, what do you attribute your success to?
The most important factor in our success is the local community. When I opened I knew I was in a smaller town and did not have the volume of people that most breweries have. The best way for me to grow the business was to get the community involved. We let any small business use the front room for meetings or small events. We advertise for local businesses. We have even hosted graduation parties, promotion ceremony’s and weddings. Long story short, we turned the brewery into a true public house where people can gather and exchange ideas, celebrate with loved ones or relax and have a pint.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I always knew I was going into the Army. Most of my family went into the military and that’s all I really knew. 20 years and 52 countries later I retired in 2009. After I retired I went to work in the tech industry and still work for a large AV company today. This is what gave me the drive to open my own business. I always wanted to create something from scratch and see how far I could take it. You have to have a strong work ethic if your going to open your own business. No one is going to tell you what to do next, You have to figure it out, know when to ask for help and share your experience so others can learn for your success and mistakes.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
There is only one sport in the city and that’s the Colorado Avalanche. After the AVs it would be the Rapids.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My wife Leslie. She has been by my side through this journey and I could not have done this without her.
