We had the good fortune of connecting with Yana Capusta and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Yana, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Originally I just enjoyed taking portraits and landscapes, some time after I recognized how valuable photography is to people. How much it means to them to preserve their precious memories, or to showcase their business, brand or talent. So I set out to provide this service. I educated myself courses and master classes to be able to give people highest quality and creativity.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My photography art has several direction within itself. I’m a family/wedding and portrait photographer, and I also enjoy creating art style/fantasy art photography. With family photos I’m truly excited to assist people with feeling beautiful, and connecting in beautiful outdoor locations throughout our gorgeous Colorado and the world. With more artsy photos I love creating colorful, stunning images that evoke feelings and thoughts in the viewer. The way I got to where I am today is by consistently practicing, doing creative sessions where I find the model and choose the outfits and location and usually those projects are financed by me, and those have gave me the most growth in my craft. It was not easy at all, it was pretty scary in the beginning to interact with people and take their photos, also finding clients was challenging. The way I was able to overcome is to do it anyway and educating myself in areas that I wasn’t proficient, helped me to deliver better image to the client and therefore grew confidence. The biggest lessons I’ve learned is not to get discouraged if something isn’t working, everything takes time and eventually you do get better. Also that the world is a friendly place and many people would love to work with you. And to always treat people with respect and kindness and be grateful to everyone on your journey. The image is a powerful tool, we see photos everywhere these days, a photo does tell a story. I’m here to show kind and positive stories of people and the world.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
What a great question. I would take them around downtown, take a walk in the confluence park. G0 t0 Larimer St, it’s always decorated so beautifully and have dinner at ocean prime. Next day I would show few amazing mountain spots, like Boulder Flatirons and Red Rocks, Lookout Mountain. Definetly take them to Idaho Springs for a nice hot springs soak and visit the Bridal Veil Falls there. St. Mary’s glacier is a must hike.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My Mom is the biggest supporter of my business, she actually invested in purchasing my 1st camera because I couldn’t afford it at the time, so I am forever grateful to her for believing in me and gifting me life.
