We had the good fortune of connecting with Rich Moyer and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Rich, other than deciding to work for yourself, what else do you think played a pivotal role in your story?
Allowing myself to fail – In reality it was allowing myself to START without fearing failure. Millions of people will never start something because they fear failing. Failing is your trampoline to success, if you are not failing, you are not learning, if you are not learning you are not growing and if you are not growing, well…. YOU ARE NOT LIVING.

To your readers: “If you could never fail, what would you do with your life?” Whatever that first thing you thought about that idea that lights you up, go do that and know… You never fail or lose in life. You only learn. When you look at failure as losing, you kill your confidence and fall back to what is easy, what’s comfortable. When you learn from failure, you grow. Growth only enhances your confidence.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I started my first business in 2014 and sold it for multi-millions in February 2017. Since 2014 I have started many companies, some are no longer in business and others are thriving. My current focus is Hoppin’ a High-Tech self-pour bar Franchise. I opened our first location in December 2017. After opening our first location we had a lot of people asking how they could bring Hoppin’ to their city which made me think of franchising the brand. I began franchising in 2022 and we currently have 5 locations open with another 3 opening this spring. These locations are location in NC, SC, TX and Nashville, TN.

Was it easy? It is never easy. From the outside looking in, it seems easy, or it seems like we are doing everything perfect. I compare business to an iceberg… People only see the 10% of the iceberg that is out of water. They do not see the 90% of hard work, blood, sweat, tears, failures, lessons and struggles under the water. Everything you did to get your business above water to be successful.

How did I overcome these challenges? I never quit, I learned from my mistakes, and I surrounded myself with an amazing team who believe in the brand and believe in me as the Founder.

What do I want the world to know about me, my story or our brand? As a Founder of multiple companies – I want the world to know how important it is to have the right people on your team for your business to be successful. As a Founder/Leader I believe your team is the most important part of your business success tied in with the culture you create. I would challenge other founders/leaders to flip the triangle upside down and put your team first, remind yourself that you work for them, they don’t work for you.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Living in Charlotte, NC. I would have to take them to support my businesses first. We would definitely visit Hoppin’, enjoy some Tacos and a K-Dog from KLoco Food Truck. We would then swing by Two Scoops Creamery for our award-winning homemade ice cream. If possible, I always like to show off my wife’s bridal shop in Charlotte, Lovely Bride and my brothers’ barbershops, Modern Classics Men’s Grooming Lounge. We will definitely take a 30-minute trip to my parent’s lunch restaurant, Moyers Lakeside Eatery at Lake Norman for a Philly Cheesesteak and German Pancake.

After we hit all of the Moyer establishments, I would take them to Northstone Country Club for a round of golf and lunch. Then I would show them around the city and check out some of my other favorite spots.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My family. I can say when most people said I was crazy or doubted me, my family believed in me. The last 7 year, my wife. Having a strong woman who believes in your vision and supports you makes the entrepreneur journey so much easier.
