We had the good fortune of connecting with Rick and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Rick, we’d love to hear more about your end-goal, professionally.
The end goal I envision for Crack One Media, is for it to be one of the leading media companies around the world. I started this company with podcasting and blogging but my bigger goals are to venture into TV/movies where I plan to write a movie script to then be filmed at a Crack One Media studio. Of course with the world evolving as fast as it does these goals may change with what I think can be a bigger achievement into different types of media but that is something that I’ll leave to future me. As for myself, I’d love to be considered a brilliant creative mind in the world of art and media. I look at people who have changed the world with their art such as Kanye West, The Beatles, Christopher Nolan, and Banksy and I strive to inspire people as they have done with their art.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Right now our main product is our podcasts, both of which are sports based. One more specifically with Chicago major leagues and the other an NFL only podcast. What really gets me excited about our company is how many areas we’re able to venture into in our quest to make us a household name. With so many ideas in my head about what else our company can be doing, there is no limit and I believe a lot of people will be fascinated with what we have in store.
Starting this up wasn’t very easy since I did start it with just myself and one podcast. I eventually reached out through many social medias, ads and DMs and I was able to bring on a few like minded people who were excited about contributing to a start-up. That seemed like the hard part but the work continued from there as I was now in a management role as opposed to just being a one man show. I believe that people shouldn’t be micromanaged but instead treated as a collaborator because at the end of the day these people are bringing my vision into reality. When I start to think of them that way, it becomes easier to think of myself as less of a boss or manager and more of just another teammate. Obviously one of the lessons I’ve learned from this mindset is there are times when you need to be the boss and make decisions that not everyone will accept but will bring the project closer to what I have envisioned.
I believe that people who want to help will help and those who don’t, won’t and that’s when I need to step in and re-evaluate who will continue to be a part of our team. At the end of the day that’s one of the biggest hurdles for me personally but a necessary one to get over if I want to bring this creation to the world.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
To start the week I would take them to brunch in the city of Seattle, more specifically Glo’s Cafe. From there I would suggest a walking tour of haunted places around the city to give them a little history as well and it’s always great to walk around a bustling big city. I’d end the day with a visit to the Space Needle to get a view of the city lights at night as well as have dinner at the top. We’d continue the week with a stop at the first ever Starbucks located at Pike Place Market and walk the entirety of the market for some lunch and snacks. I’d take them to dinner at one of the best dumpling places in the city, Dough Zone and end with drinks at a hotel bar called The Nest with amazing views of the water and city.
I’d ask them if they have an adventurous side and suggest a day trip to Mount Rainier for skiing, hot chocolate and phenomenal views again.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My number one supporter has always been my wife, Natalie. She pushes me to continue working on my goals and has helped me tremendously with recommendations and feedback on the product we put out. Most, if not all, of our social media presence and aesthetic would not be what it is without her input, ideas and feedback as well as her expertise in the marketing field. Really without her Crack One Media would not have lasted as long as it has and for that I am forever grateful to have her.
