We had the good fortune of connecting with Ricky Feria and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Ricky, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
Risk taking has played a big role in my music career. When deciding to stop going to Architecture school to pursue being a full time musician I took a major risk. My thought process was simple and even though it was a risky move I knew it was truly what I needed to do to be happy so I went ahead with the decision and it has had a very big role in the rest of my career. After taking the initial risk to pursue music it has opened the door to taking other risks within this industry and I think it has payed off!

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My music has a lot of influences that set it apart from others. Coming from a background of playing in a touring rock band (which is one of my proudest accomplishments) and combining that with my background as an electronic music producer has resulted in a very unique style of music that i make for my Rix project. This project has had a very unique sound that has both been rewarding but also challenging to find a label to want to release such a unique sound. It wasnt until recently that i started to gain traction and get some of my music to be picked up by a label.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
My favorite part about being in the Denver area is the access to the mountains. That is the first place I would take someone visiting. Preferably it would be during winter so i could take them snowboarding/skiing. I would also take them to see some music which this city has so much to offer. Last but not least I would make sure to take them to get some of the great Mexican food that they have here. As someone who grew up with Mexican parents, the Mexican food here in Denver is one of my favorite things about the city.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My father has been very key to my success in my music career. Having played soccer at professional level and having left that career to become a food scientists he always made me realize that i should choose one path and go for it. This was a big key to my thought process when deciding to change my career path towards music as I knew that’s what I wanted to do with my life so I gave it a full chance.
