We had the good fortune of connecting with Robert Louthan and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Robert, why did you pursue a creative career?
I chose to pursue an artistically creative career as a response to impulse; having always been drawn to creativity and exploration since I was a child, it has been the only constant in my life. At no juncture did I ever consider doing life any differently, and to this day it is not always easy but the impulse to make and create things continues to be a driving force in continuing on this path.
What should our readers know about your business?
My business has grown slowly yet steadily, and I appreciate the foundation I’ve build beneath myself as a multi-faceted creative. As a self employed working artist, I’ve learned to wear many hats: painter, designer, muralist, carpenter, illustrator, teacher, manager, administrator, mechanic, accountant, cook, etc etc. It is been challenging every step of the way, and I believe the moments of lightnesss come amidst the hustle when I pause to realize how fortunate I am to design a life that inspires me to live it. Building my brand atop the pillars of integrity, kindness, and service have helped me utilize social media as a means of telling my story, and place client interactions in a field more akin to social psychology and relationship building.. which brings humanity into the picture, as
opposed to capital gains. Its all who we choose to share energy, and build with.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If my best friend was in the area for the week, we’d hop on bicycles and lap the city a few times. Hit Mara’s cafe for almost crossants, chinatown for dumplings, hit 24th street for tacos. Definitely a mural tour through the mission district. We’d peep the city views up on Corona heights, catch sunset up at Twin Peaks. Relaxing a Sunday on Divisadero street, evening rides through Golden Gate park, maybe have a Kava at the lounge and catch a show at the Fillmore. San Francisco exists within a living postcard, turn a street and get swallowed by beautiful scenes and settings continuously. That’s why we love it here, just surreal and so real at the same time.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My shoutout is dedicated to Susan Cervantes and the Precita Eyes muralists, our creative community and mural arts family here in San Francisco, California. The belonging that this group has afforded me, not to mention the mentorship, skill sharing and inspirations, has been a beacon of Light amidst the challenges of creative entrepreneurship and city living. Susan’s steadfast pursuit of public service on behalf of the arts is a driving force that inspires me each day to stay the path and give all of myself to it.
