We had the good fortune of connecting with Robert Martinez and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Robert, is your business focused on helping the community? If so, how?
As a tattoo shop, it has let us reach out into the community. And with that reach he have been able to have a school supply drive and a Christmas toy drive for years. And help at Thanksgiving when we can. We have also donated tattoo certificates to many fund raising events . As well as numerous charity events .

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I got into tattooing years ago and wanted to do more dark pieces . But what I got into more was fine line and portrait tattooing. I love when tattoos come to life and you see your art take form . I tattooed out of my house for a few years and decided to do a apprenticeship. That wasn’t easy. That long ago. You had to know someone to get into a shop . I had went around almost every shop in Denver and was told no. Finally one guy took a shot . Carl was awesome and showed me , and guided me to things I didn’t know. It was something I would appreciate forever . Things changed and now it’s the easy way for a lot of people. Pride went out the door . Old apprenticeship need to come back . Traditional ways need to be still taught and going. It’s something that I can honestly say was a very good thing. From having a criminal record as young as 15 to now a business owner and having charity events and helping the community is great. If I didn’t find tattooing I wouldn’t probably be here or in jail .

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
We would definitely find good locally owned restaurants to go eat . As well as a bronco game . And if any fairs or car shows we would definitely stop at. And any good love music would always be fun . But definitely try and support small local businesses

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
A big thank you to everyone that has helped and donated time , money and supplies. All my friends and very supportive family . And my faithful clients . As well as the people from Western dist.
