We had the good fortune of connecting with Robin Berndt and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Robin, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
I feel all my careers have all been creative careers. My journey now as an Author is a compilations of everything that has brought me to this point. I wish to share with others, what has helped me most. There came a time where I had to stop identifying and listening to the outside world, instead I went within. This allowed me to find my true self, my true purpose and this is where I am right now, in my life.

I look around and see a disconnect. There seems to be no depth, maybe due to technology. I sense a shallowness, fear and a loss of who and what we were meant to be, that has causes so much suffering. It does not have to be this way. We were, and are meant for Greatness.
Drugs for anxiety are so prevalent in our society and thank goodness there is such a thing. I wonder why I am not on them? I have dealt with nervous issue since I was a little child. Actually that was probable a gift that saved me. Because of this I choose to look for paths that could lead me toward a more peaceful, balanced life. Tools in my tool kit, you might say.

To answer your question why I choose the path of creativity as my last career. It is because it allows me to reach out, share and hopefully help a few people along the way.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
The point in my life where I started my own personal journey of bringing in balance and depth into my realm of existence, there was an overwhelming need reach out and help others. This began with the healing arts as a: Massage therapist, Herbalist, Reiki practitioner and Iridologist. I then chose to work with children and disabilities, who are indeed some of the most purest souls on earth. I followed my path into the world of non-profit work as Executive Director with Habitat for Humanity. It was not easy, but very rewarding and taught me a lot about myself. From there I went into teaching Mental Health First Aid and Suicide Prevention as an instructor for a local Mental Health Center. I feel all my paths and challenges were necessary and did not come by chance. I learned a much along the way that caused me to take a long look at who I am. It brought me to the place of wanting to reflect and write.

I’ve overcome challenges by looking within, examine my beliefs and what has gotten me to this point. What it is I need to learn from each situation? I work with the beliefs that have created challenging situations in my life and find it to be a powerful exercise. I keep a notebook where I write out old beliefs that do not serve my highest good. I then cross them out… and write in new beliefs, like affirmation. After being totally honest with myself, I am able to forgive, thank, and release thus letting it go and moving on. This process helps me. It is important to take responsibility. I know I can change the outcome, if I am not at peace. All I need is right where I am.
This is true for all of us. So I write!

How does this get me to the career I have now chosen as an Author? It all contributed! Everything that happens to us whether what we consider good or bad for us, happens for a reason. I have found the greatest gifts are in the hardest moments. Don’t let anything that happens to you in life go to waste. It is all important in helping me grow and evolve.
I would like to follow up with a book specifically to help teens. I also have an affirmations workbook in the works for people of all ages. I do not know when, where, or the how of any of this…. but I trust the process.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I do not live in Denver. I live on the Western Slope in Montrose. Over here we have such diversity in every direction. Desert to the north heading toward Grand Junction and the largest flat top mesa in the country, the Grand Mesa. Beautiful vistas to the east heading towards Gunnison bypassing the largest reservoir in the state at Blue Mesa Reservoir. To the south Ouray, Silverton, and the famous Million Dollar highway over Red Mountain pass to Durango. The west offers the rugged plateau of the Uncompahgre, just beyond lies Telluride.

So many places to go and things to do!
