We had the good fortune of connecting with Rosa Gonzalez and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Rosa, where are your from? We’d love to hear about how your background has played a role in who you are today?
We are a family originally from Acapulco, Mexico who came to U.S. 20 years ago. Our background help us understand how is to be an immigrant in this country and to connect with other immigrant families through our coffee shop.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am a former early childhood education teacher who came tho U.S. 20 years ago with my family for a better future. Me and my husband started working in hospitality, because it was on demand and it was a way to provide for our daugthers. Our major challenge was the language, which we learned along the way. Therefore, through all these years working in hospitality made us consolidate the dream of opening a family business, a business that we were able to combine all the skills we learned and to connect with immigrant families specially the spanish speaki g ones.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would take her all around some Colorado interesting points such as Rocky Mountain National park, the Million dollar highway, Maroon bells in Aspen, to the Great Sandunes and perhaps to the Garden of Goats in colorado springs.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I dedicate this shoutout article to all my family. They are the most amazing people who through efforts made Canela coffee shop to happen.
