We had the good fortune of connecting with Sam Randall and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Sam, what inspires you?
The inspiration for Crème De La Crime Podcast all started when I was 19 years old. I didn’t know I wanted to be a podcaster at this time, but my desire to help find missing people all started here. Someone I knew in high school was abducted and remained missing for months before her body was later found in the middle of a field. I remember her disappearance feeling like a surreal nightmare. This was when I started collecting local newspapers from the area where she went missing, as well as searching for anything I could find online about the area. Her killer was caught years later after abducting and murdering another young girl, but my passion for true crime continued to blossom from there.
I joined the podcasting world in 2020 after my best friend and I decided we wanted to give it a try together. Co.Signed Podcast was born and is still going to this day – covering topics all about relationships and mental health. Once we joined the podcasting world, I started listening to True Crime Podcasts more and more. I had so many that I liked, but there was one in particular that just really touched me every time I listened to one of the episodes. That podcast was The Vanished. This was when I knew what niche in the True Crime world I was really meant to explore. The idea for Crème De La Crime Podcast was born and 10 months later I officially launched the first episode – Alabama: What happened to Hoover Morris & Kemberly Ramer? – on May 5, 2022. My passion is bringing awareness to the disappearances that didn’t get the attention they deserved, cold cases, and cases that influenced the launch of major organizations that are still in place today. If my podcast can help bring home at least one individual during it’s run, I will be completely satisfied.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I spent 15 years in the retail and customer service industry. My goal was to finally leave before I turned 31 and I did just that. I put in my two weeks notice as an Operations Manager for a multi-billion dollar company and never looked back. Crème De La Crime Podcast is still in the beginning and developing stages of becoming my full time career, so I do multiple private contracting jobs to supplement my income in the meantime. This allows me to make my own schedule and provides me with the time I need to dedicate to research, interviews, recording, and editing. I also create the majority of the transition beats I use in my episodes, as well as all the graphics I post to my Instagram and website. Podcasting is a full time job and decent quality production equipment costs money. If you have a favorite podcast that you really love, I highly recommend you consider being a financial supporter of their show!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
There wasn’t many people that understood why I would want to start a podcast that most outside of the true crime community consider “dark” or “depressing”. I actually vividly remember feeling like I couldn’t talk to anyone I was close with about it. Once I created my official Instagram page, everything changed. It immediately began exploding with follows, requests, and messages from other true crime podcasters welcoming me to the community, listening to my episodes, and sharing my content with their large community of followers. So many podcasts starting tagging me in posts and giving me shoutouts in episodes. If I’m being truthful, it was completely shocking and overwhelming. The outpouring of love and support from complete strangers made me fall in love with this community and what I’m doing even more.
There’s a hand full of podcasts in particular that come to mind that I am forever grateful to:
Live Laugh Murder Podcast and The Crime Chronicles were the first two podcasts to reach out to me directly and share my content. Then followed Evil Pudding Podcast, True Crime BNB, M3: Murder, Mystery and Mayhem, & Spilling The Crime. The faces behind these podcasts have become like family and their support has meant more than I am able to articulate.
I also have to say a huge thank you to my parents for being regular listeners of the show and for always supporting me in every dream I choose to pursue.
