We had the good fortune of connecting with Samantha Sargent and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Samantha, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
Basically I was an accidental professional volunteer for many years, one day I “woke up” and said “I need to do this professionally”, so I started talking to a few friends, they offered me their space and it began….

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I am a people person, I love helping and seeing everyone grow together! I used to create events from the ground up, when my vendor events got over 45 booths I realized I couldn’t grow any more. This task really is for a 5-10 person team and I had no idea how to scale that. I also found it was very lonely and I didn’t want to continue on that route. It was nice having accolades from the community and from those I served, and I was honest to them. I told them going bigger meant I would lose the closeness I had with them so I moved into being contracted into bigger events. I found it just as fulfilling to work with a larger event team that was established and needed someone like me to fill in the gaps they got too big for. I could relate to not being able to do everything alone and I already had the skills to step in for sales, promoting, hospitality, and more! Things were going very smoothly and then covid hit, everyone went virtual and I immediately knew that was not my zone. I took a break from that line of work and of course kept my foot in the door supporting how I could as a participant and spreading the word to the community. I continued networking and chatting about how the events world was going. I thought I was going to be “out of the game” and then one week 3 different groups called asking for me to work with them on their event projects. I was so excited to be in this zone once again and I felt so comfortable and confident. A few weeks later another few groups contacted me and now I am full force again. Now my integration of work and life is more balanced, I say no to events when I am too busy. FOMO is a real thing and sometimes it is hard to say no, now that I am more practiced at only taking the jobs that really excite me with people who are fully engaged I can relax and go socialize, I don’t have to be the lead all the time. I do like to be the go to, and at the same time sharing. Like I said in the beginning to grow together sometimes I am the one who needs to let others step in.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I am so blessed to live in a city that not only my kids love, my parents also live minutes down the street, my brothers and their families are here, and we see each other often PLUS we are surrounded by tons of free attractions.

My perfect week with guests would be fully laid out by our meal times! I even love planning rest and every moment of travel! When we eat at home it would be blueberry pancakes, all the fixings, Veteran Coffee Roasters R&R Roast for breakfast. Grocery shopping on base and tons of beverages to keep us hydrated and ready to go for adventure. BBQ’s and roasts in the crock pot would welcome us home when we plan ahead the best.

We gotta get in the cliche Garden of the Gods tour, Incline work out if they are up for it, tour the Colorado Breweries & Distilleries. Maybe we could catch a AA Baseball Game, Switchbacks Soccer Game, AFA Football Game, or go up to Denver for the Rockies, Avs, or Nuggets. My daughter works at Dart Wars so we would have to go embarrass her there. If our friends had kids we would also go to Springs Trampoline, swimming, and enjoy any choice of 100+ parks and splash pads.

They might need a vacation after their vacation! I might need one too!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My husband is my rock. He supports me in whatever I do, whenever. I get to follow my passions and support him in his career as well. My parents and children allow me to be the family member I have always wanted to be AND the entrepreneur I desire! I love people and being a part of small and large communities brings me great joy!

1 Million Cups locally and Nationwide has been a great way to connect and be supportive in Colorado Springs. The Pikes Peak Region TimeBanks members and leaders have been instrumental in uplifting me and helping me feel welcome all over the world for what I do locally. So many ideas and thoughts shared its immeasurable.
