We had the good fortune of connecting with Michelle Martinez and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Michelle, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I was in a very bad car accident that left me with a broken knee, a severe concussion and injuries to my neck. I had to have surgery on my knee, infusions in my neck and I still go to the neurologist every 3 months to get injections in my head, face, neck and shoulders. I’m severely allergic to opioids. So after having surgery the Dr. gave me pain meds for my pain and they made me so sick i ended up with severe atrophy in my knee because I couldn’t walk or move.. I literally suffered without pain meds until I was introduced to CBD for pain management. It helped me recover and I started researching more about CBD. Because of my background, (I’m a hairdresser/make up artist) I have the knowledge of how to make and create holistic, organic products. I started researching more, then started creating my own line. I gave products to my industry friends and to pro athletes who I work with and the feedback was so great I just kept going with new products and here I am, 3 years later loving what I’m creating.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I’ve been a professional hairdresser and makeup artist for over 30 years. It’s been a fantastic career. I’ve been an educator, worked NYFW, tons of fashion shows, photo shoots. I’ve worked with celebrities, television and film. I absolutely love what I do. I love the industry and love all the amazing artists that I know and have worked with. It’s always changing and evolving and this career has taken me to other countries for work.. I love the creative side and watching a model evolve into her character for a show. I love knowing I’ve put my heart and soul into a haircut and color and seeing the smile on my clients face after. In this profession we are a teacher, psychologist, Dr, lawyer and so much more. We hold all your little secrets for life. And I wouldn’t change a thing.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
We would start in Cherry creek north for drinks at Machete and head over to Elway’s for dinner on a summer night. Take a trip up to Red Rocks for a great workout and enjoy the view. and a concert. Our road trip would be to Glenwood Springs for a Hanging Lake hike, rafting and zip lining. We most definitely would go to a Broncos game and Nuggets game. And end the week at Estes park for horse back riding. I’m a Colorado Native. I love our summers.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
All credit goes to my son Beau. He is and always will be my WHY. He has always given me the strength and courage that I need. I was a single mother raising a man. It wasn’t always easy. We had many trials and tribulations along the way. But, It’s always been my main focus to give him the best life I never had. I was always 1000% on hand with him. Him and I against the world. He’s a Marine, Pro athlete, College graduate from Regis University and now living in China teaching English. He’s the man behind the scenes helping me make business decisions 8,000 miles away. My Sun and Stars.
