We had the good fortune of connecting with Lowdy Trail and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Lowdy Trail, have there been any changes in how you think about work-life balance?
My balance between work and life has changed drastically over time. When I first began I put my work over everything sometimes putting other things in life on stand by. What I realized is this helped me in my career but also put my life goals on hold and vice versa. Over time I learned that an even balance between both can equal an even outcome in both fields. For example I have to make sure my priorities are met in life first to make sure my career can succeed. I can’t put everything on my career until my career is also benefiting my life. Everyone in life still needs to make time for the personal relationships and goals they have in life so they do not lose those loves or goals overtime. This will bring an even balance of peace and rest between chasing your career goals and time to evaluate more properly your career strategies when your career is not making the progress you need fast enough to benefit your personal life.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I, Samuel Hawkins am a Lyricist/Recording Artist under the name Lowdy Trail. My main genre of music is Rap and Hip Hop. I write my own lyrics and perform my own songs. I am an independent artist under New West Management. That is what I am most excited about and proud of is how far I have come through my own work and dedication on my own time and struggle. The biggest obstacle I have had to overcome is balancing my personal life and my career life. When coming up as an artist all you want to do in life is create what you love to do. Unfortunately to say your art may not start to benefit your personal life right away so you have to make sacrifices and be patient. I had to learn that bills come first and taking care of priorities in my personal life had to be completed before investing financially more and more in my own career. I would like the world to know that it took me a very long time and a lot of failures to get to where I am today. So if you are chasing a dream or career in life never look at your failures as failing look at them as a lesson. Figured out where you went wrong and correct the issue so the next time this doesn’t stop you the same way it did before and you over succeed instead. I started my music career when I was 16 years old I’m 28 years now and took me this long just to get where I am today and I am still learning.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my friend has never been to Colorado of course the outdoors and downtown Denver on a weekend night. The outdoors would be for the weekdays or mornings. The hiking locations near the foothills or deeper in the mountains are amazing and refreshing most in the morning and day time when you can take in the whole environment. The downtown area is the most beautiful at night. The entire strip of Market St. has a wide array of bars and restaurants to walk in between keeping you busy and excited with social events and extrovert life the entire night. The best part about downtown Denver is you don’t need to know every exact location you can leave your vehicle and block by block find new and exciting things the entire night. The same goes with the outdoors a simple Google search of hiking or mountain visitor locations can bring you an entire list of places to explore each morning and day.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to dedicate this section to my friends and family who continued supporting me when I couldn’t support my self. It is very easy to accept failure and find your self stuck and losing hope or motivation. If not for those friends and family who reminded me why I started and why I can’t give up I may have quit a long time ago. So thank you and god bless you to all my family and friends who continue to this day to remind me to never give up and always keep working towards my success in my career.
