We had the good fortune of connecting with Sandi Gatewood and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Sandi, maybe we can start at the very start – the idea – how did you come up with the idea for your business?
I have a special needs dog named Payton who has IBD (inflammatory bowel disease). This requires him to eat small meals multiple times a day. Since I worked full time, I always needed to hire a pet sitter to feed my two dogs their lunch. Most of my pet sitters completely ignored my boys even though they were seeking attention. This made me sad for them. I knew I could do better and be the kind of pet sitter that is nurturing and loving. When I lost my job, I saw this as a sign to make a change. I thought, life is way too short to endure another “office” job that didn’t fulfill me. So, I took the leap and Sandi’s Pampered Pets was born!

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I worked in the dental industry for 20+ years prior to starting my pet care business. I was feeling burnt-out and looking to pivot into something I was more passionate about. What sets me apart from others is my maturity, exceptional service, and dependability. I pay attention to the specific instructions clients provide me with, any special needs, and possible unforeseen obstacles such as weather conditions.  I am most proud of the connections I have made with my families and the mutual trust we have in one another. I can confidently say that I take exceptional care of my fur clients. I treat them like family and I think people recognize and appreciate that. I’m so blessed to be living my dream. I LOVE my fur babies; it’s so much fun getting to know their individual personalities and intricacies.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
First on the list is, Garden of The Gods Park – it’s also pet friendly!  Our favorite place to dine is Atmosphere Gastropub. If we have a friend visiting we like to take them to a variety of places depending on personal preferences. You can’t go wrong with any of the following: Pikes Peak, Flying W Ranch, Glen Eyrie Castle, and Odyssey’s Gastropub.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My husband deserves a huge shoutout! He encouraged me to do something I LOVE even though we would take a financial hit. He not only encouraged me but is also helping me service my clients!
