Meet Sarah Chase Fountain | Brand Strategist + Copywriter + Content Director

We had the good fortune of connecting with Sarah Chase Fountain and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Sarah Chase, what role has risk played in your life or career?
For better or worse, risk is an afterthought for me.
The good part? If you jump before you think, there’s no time for fear to creep in.
The bad part? If you jump before you think, there’s no time to consider the consequences.
Eight years ago, I lost my job unexpectedly and had about $30 in my bank account.
Without thinking, I signed up for a coworking space that cost $400 a month.
The risk was worth the squeeze. Within one month, I had enough clients to cover the coworking fee and get myself on my feet—moving in a good direction with my career.
I applied the same method two years ago, when I drove down to Mexico in a well-weathered Ford Ranger, throwing caution—and itineraries—to the wind.
Were there consequences? Yes.
Was it worth it? Also yes.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
As an independent Brand Strategist, Copywriter, and Content Director, I am proud (she says humbly) of my ability to get to the chutzpah of a company’s core.
I’m equally proud of my anti-generic approach—one that reliably carries messages across the ages and algorithms.
To succeed, I’ve found that “no and slow” is an effective ethos: No to tropes, clichés, or “explosive!” growth claims. Instead: slow growth—rooted and sturdy; no corner-cutting, green-washing, or trend-chasing. No and slow, please and thank you.
Also worth noting: I’m proud of the meaning people have found in the writing group I founded, the Mala Mujer Collective—a place to write, connect, and open one’s mind.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
True to Boulder, we’d start early with a jaunt up Mount Sanitas. After testing my friend’s lung capacity, we’d bop (slang for “moving aimlessly”) around Pearl Street, grabbing coffee from Trident and peeping—or purchasing—a book or two.
For the first part of the week, we’d keep it local: Movement Climbing Gym, Chautauqua, Valmont Bike Park, Moxie Bread Co., and the like.
Then we’d head up to Nederland to eat at Decent Bagel, mountain bike Maryland Mountain, and count elk in Rocky Mountain National Park.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Dedicated to the Malas Mujeres, wherever I met you and will meet you.
