We had the good fortune of connecting with Sarah Leistico and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Sarah, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
Giving others the opportunity to chase and create their own adventures to remember is what drove the creation of Abstract Adventures. I enjoy connecting with people and providing them with the tools and support they need to have a memorable experience – no matter their outdoor or artistic ability.

As a self-taught artist, I didn’t envision turning painting into a business but the idea kept swirling around and after some research, conversations, and a bit of risk taking, I decided to go for it. I’m at the beginning of this journey, but excited for all the possibilities that lie ahead.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
My art is accessible and active. Through experimenting, I have found specialized techniques that live throughout different pieces and that I can share with others.

Art has never felt like a challenge because I view it as an experience instead. I want others to feel that way too. Techniques and tutorials are great, but the heart lies within your ability to let go and enjoy the creative process.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I really enjoy when friends or family come to visit because it creates opportunities to uncover unique experiences that we can try together. I’m definitely looking forward to bringing loved ones along for an Abstract Adventures hike-and-paint the next time they visit Denver!

Colorado has countless amazing places to explore, so road trips or day trips are usually my go-to. There’s a simple combination that is always a good time: Find a breathtaking trail, bring some goodies for the summit, and choose a mountain town brewery with a patio – if there’s live music or a nearby art gallery, even better.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My partner Hernán has been instrumental throughout this journey. I wouldn’t be where I am now without his support and encouragement.
