We had the good fortune of connecting with Sarah Lurie and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Sarah, what makes you happy? Why?
From a business perspective: Making my clients happy, of course! But no, really! There’s nothing quite like working with a couple for 1+ years planning their wedding and then seeing it all come to fruition. From the preliminary stages of sending out the Save the Dates to witnessing the vows at the ceremony, it’s extremely rewarding to be on the journey with my clients. It’s sort of addicting…once I complete a wedding, I’m early awaiting the next!
I work closely with my clients and know all the details of their wedding intimately, so it’s an extraordinary feeling to not only see the logistical components play out as intended, but to see their family & friends celebrate their love!
From a personal perspective: Working is a large contributor to my happiness and I truly believe that to be a successful entrepreneur, work can’t only be “your job” but it has to give you fuel and keep you energized…and for me, it really does!
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
My business, Delilah Events, is entering its fourth wedding season! Ever since I was young, I knew I wanted to be a wedding planner, and I haven’t looked back since. I gained experience interning at local event planning companies, working as a venue manager during college, and learning the ropes at the Leeds School of Business. All of these opportunities helped me start my own business.
My team might be small but we’re mighty! It’s me, 1-2 Associate Coordinators (depending on our needs for the season), and a Social Media Intern. We plan events all over Colorado and are excited to expand to destination weddings soon. We offer a thorough pre-booking consultation to customize each package to fit our clients’ needs. Some clients hand over the reins completely, wanting support from booking the venue to sending out invitations. Others seek general guidance and on-site execution.
What sets my business apart is our unique blend of qualities that clients consistently highlight in their reviews: personable, professional, and detail-oriented. We pride ourselves on creating a balance between forming genuine friendships with our clients and providing expert guidance. This approach not only makes the planning process enjoyable but also ensures we truly understand and fulfill their deepest hopes and desires. By leveraging our extensive industry knowledge and connections, we deliver a wedding experience that is both memorable and meticulously planned.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Ooo love this question!
I lived in Boulder most of my life and then went to school there, so I became a regular at many places!
My ideal Saturday itinerary would consist of:
Getting breakfast burritos as Santos, they are seriously the best burritos I’ve EVER had
Walking down the block and grabbing a coffee with boba from Pekoe
Shopping at some local thrift stores
Taking a walk (or even better, going tubbing) at the Boulder Creek
Hitting The Corner next to CU’s campus for lunch and order the Latin Bowl (great for vegetarians 😉 )
Seeing a movie at Century Theater on 29th Street
Enjoying dinner at Chey Thuy, they have like a 6 page menu and the best tai food
Going to Ripple for some frozen yogurt
Other weekend activities that I love!
– Camping in Vail and Salida
– Concerts and events at Red Rocks
– Coffee shop exploring in Denver
– Strolling around Cheeseman Park
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Where to even begin! I feel extremely honored to have a family (particularly my parents and sister) as my biggest advocates and emotional guides. From proof reading emails to being the “boots on the ground” at the weddings themselves, they have helped give me gain the confidence that has been critical to the success of the business.
I would also be remised, if I didn’t mention my time as a student at CU Boulder’s Leeds School of Business where I learned very piratical business skills, that helped immensely in the early stages of building my company. I took several entrepreneurship classes and had very impactful professors and mentors that helped me get the business up and running!
Finally, I’d like to shoutout my fellow vendors (or as I like to call them friendors) because it truly takes a team to plan and excuse a successful event. Strong relationships with industry experts (photographers, venues, etc.) have lead to many client referrals, but even more importantly, they have made my job more enjoyable and just overall fun!
