We had the good fortune of connecting with Sarah Trent and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Sarah, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
My parents owned their own advertising agency, so growing up I witnessed first hand the ups and downs of business ownership. My father always told me to find a job where I could work for myself. Those words stuck with me and informed a lot of the decisions that I made. Primarily, the decision to go to law school and then to work at the public defender’s office and not a big firm.

Valley Wellness was a combination of two things – wanting to own my own business and wanting to be involved in something that I loved and believed so strongly in – Cannabis.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Valley Wellness is the first stand-alone, women owned business, non-vertical, non MSO dispensary to open in the State of New Jersey this past November 2022. It was not an easy road to get there. We applied for this permit in 2019, but with litigation and COVID delays, did not obtain the permit until 2021. We waited patiently for over two years, while trying to keep busy and stay focused and positive. Finally, Valley Wellness was named the highest scoring dispensary applicant and we were able to get to work building out the facility, which took an entire year.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
