We had the good fortune of connecting with Eric Paicurich and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Eric, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
During the pandemic like most people did, I dove more into my hobby. Which for me was woodworking. Both of my Grandfathers were into woodworking, one as a hobbyist like myself and one owned his own hardwood flooring business here in Denver. I started making stuff for my wife around our house and people started asking where she got some of the items. Which led to me making items for friends and family. Eventually with a lot of support from family, friends, and most importantly my wife they convinced me to pursue this and make my items available to everyone! I have always wanted to own my own business and see how successful I could make it. At the beginning there was a lot of questions, worry, excitement, and learning(still am learning everyday). I love the challenge! It has been a fun, exciting, and sometimes nerve racking endeavor so far, but am very excited to see where we can make this go!

What should our readers know about your business?
One of the reasons I started EP Woodworking is because you cant always find exactly what you want in stores, and if you do maybe you want something made out of real quality hardwoods, that will last a lifetime and beyond. We pride ourselves in making products that are made 100% out of domestic and exotic hardwoods. We also offer one of a kind items. We love when a customer calls or emails with an idea they have dreamed up and they want it to come to life, and we are able to produce that for them. I also love that no piece of wood is the same, each grain pattern is different, each shade of wood is different, making each piece truly one of a kind! We specialize in items as small as cutting boards, and board games to shelving and custom dinning room tables. I am very excited to see what else we end up creating and what customers we can help with their custom items! Seeing customer’s faces when they get their items will never get old and is what keeps me wanting to produce quality handcrafted items. Nothing can leave the shop or get the “EP” stamped on it until it has met my standards of quality!

I think one of the hardest things for a new up and coming business is getting your name out there, and not always having a lot of money to market yourself. This is when I turned to social media. I have never been a very active poster on social media in my personal life, so there was a learning curve. The best thing I could have done was just start promoting myself on social media. Once you figure out how to add music and edit videos, the sky is the limit on getting your name out. When I first started trying to get my name out there I was just filming myself building items and at the end of the day I would edit the videos together and post. I had no clue if I was wasting my time and posting these videos into outer space where no-one would even see them haha. However, consistently posting has helped me get my name out and there are plenty of people out there to help stir you in the right direction. It also doesn’t hurt if you have family and friends who are willing to share your content to help you get in front of more people!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Our family loves hosting friends and family who come to visit. I also love smoking meats and cooking for a lot of people so there would definitely be one day where we invite over our other friends and family and have a good ol’ BBQ with lots of pulled pork, brisket, ribs, sides, and of course some Dad pops. Then whatever sports team is in season during their visit we like to take them out to catch a Rockies, Broncos, Nuggets, or Avalanche game. All of our sports stadiums are awesome venues that everyone should experience a game in. It also isn’t a proper visit to Colorado without going to a few local breweries to try different kinds of local crafted beers or to many of our local restaurants. Some of my favorites are Wonderland Brewing, Kokopelli Brewing, Law’s Chophouse, Lazy Dog, and Little Man Ice Cream just to name a few. It also isn’t really a trip to Colorado if you don’t stumble your way into the Mountains, our two favorite towns to visit are Breckenridge and Steamboat Springs. There are so many other great mountain towns but I cant list them all! We also like to take in some quality fun time, and there is no better way to do that then a boardgame night which involves a couple more of those Dad Pops haha.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
First and foremost my Wife Vicki. She has supported me in taking the chance to start and grow this business. She is my biggest supporter! Then there is the rest of our family who are there when we need them, whether helping us out with our two children or helping spread the word about EP Woodworking. Also, growing up working for my Grandpa at his hardwood flooring business, giving me the goal to one day have my own business. Lastly, my other Grandfather who used to give us handmade wooden toys, puzzles, keepsake boxes and many other items for each birthday or Christmas, and the pure excitement I used to get when I received them. I think this played a roll in why I decided to pursue this as well. Nothing is better than seeing peoples faces when they receive their orders. Which reminds me I have to thank all of my customers for their support as well! Without them none of this is possible.
