We had the good fortune of connecting with Sarah Zettler and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Sarah, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I started KidsinCastleRock as a way to be a resource to other parents. As a mom of two little ones, I knew firsthand how difficult it can be to find daily activities for young kids. It can seem like the world we live in isn’t very baby/kid-friendly but that doesn’t mean there aren’t fun places to go, engaging activities, and creative ways to spend time with your kids. So I wanted to share my experiences, ideas, and resources for other parents who may feel stuck or alone in their day-to-day routine..
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I have an MBA with a specialization in Marketing. I worked as a corporate event planner and after I decided to stay home with my kids, I wanted to take that experience and apply it to day-to-day life. I joke that “I’m a stay-at-home mom who is never at home.” I like to plan fun days for my kids exploring the beautiful state of Colorado, from ensuring daily access to the outdoors (visiting parks, playgrounds, hiking trails, etc.), and checking out fun play places, to seeing up easy at-home crafts or activities.
I aim to create wonderful childhood memories without breaking the bank and I enjoy being able to share these resources with other parents as we all navigate this journey of parenthood.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Great question! And a fun one. When friends and their kids come to visit us in Colorado, I love to take them for donuts at The Donut House or a cinnamon roll at B&B cafe in Castle Rock to start our day with a fun treat. Then we would head to a play place like The Children’s Museum in Denver, Playstreet Museum in Highlands Ranch, Denver Zoo Conservation Alliance, or the Denver Museum of Nature and Science.
We would come back to Castle Rock for lunch and sit on the patio at Block and Bottle, then walk around downtown Castle Rock, stopping at Glacier Homemade Ice Cream and eating it across the street in Festival Park.
In the afternoon, we would play at one of the amazing town parks in Castle Rock, such as Deputy Zack S. Parrish III Memorial Park, Possibilities Playground at Butterfield Crossing Park, Phillip S Miller Park, or Rhyolite Regonal Park. Or we could head out and hike “The Rock” in Castle Rock, or go to Castlewood Canyon State Park.
Dinner would be pizza at Scileppi’s at the Old Stone Church!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to thank my friend Meaghan, who encouraged me to start my account. She often said I should share my knowledge and believed in me when I didn’t think the things I did with my kids in my day-to-day mom life was of any interest to anyone or worthy of being shared.
