We had the good fortune of connecting with Sarajane Snowden and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Sarajane, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
My husband and I grew up on cattle ranches. When we went out on our own and had are own cows we experienced first hand the frustrations of being price takers and taking break even prices for our calves. This encouraged us to take our beef all the way to consumer creating sustainability in our cattle business. This year (2022) we expanded our business from just selling locally to having the ability to ship all over the United States.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
We are family owned and operated cattle business. We care intensely for our livestock and the land they live off of!
But above all we believe there’s nothing more valuable in this world than relationships and we hope to live and run our business in a way that inspires healthy communities and family wellness.
We hope families experience more family dinners when they have a freezer full of Snowden Beef!
Every chance we can we work to be community builders investing in our youth and other community service organizations!
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
We love the rural area of Yampa, Colorado that we live and play in!
We love hosting, and when we do the days look like this:
Coffee on our porch taking in the cold mountain air and beautiful wild landscapes.
Stopping in at Montgomery’s general store for picnic food and then heading to the Flat top Wilderness area for a picnic and exploring.
Then finish the evening at the Antlers Cafe and Bar!
Summers in Yampa are the best time to visit!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Incredibly thankful to our local Yampa Valley Community!! When we took the jump of taking our beef all the way to consumer so many community members were so supportive and helped our business grow through direct purchases and helping spread the word! We are still so amazed by the overwhelming support we have from our local community!
