We had the good fortune of connecting with Satia Herrera and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Satia, we’d love for you to start things off by telling us something about your industry that we and others not in the industry might be unaware of?
Becoming an esthetician isn’t a simple process, and isn’t an easy career to commit to. Becoming a licensed professional includes months of trade school and additional education to become certified in specific areas, state board exams, thousands of dollars invested, years of building clientele, years of mastering the industry. This industry doesn’t come without the patience, determination, and effort to become a sustainable career. This is why many of us leave, before we’ve even begun. Because beauty is ever evolving, the industry always has new services and techniques that keep clients wanting the next best thing. Society holds very high and very unrealistic beauty standards, and some may see beauty professionals as feeding into these negative ideas about what beauty should look like. Having been in the industry sine 2018, the idea behind helping our clients is to enhance their natural beauty, and sometimes it just doesn’t meet their expectations. A lot of this profession includes making our clients become comfortable with their sense of self, and it’s a difficult aspect of the psychological work that goes into this process. We encounter tons of clients who are upset, and disappointed when results aren’t immediate, as well as those that are unable to afford the services that will meet their skincare goals. There are many expectations of beauty professionals to be able to magically make clients look like celebrities, and although we want every client to feel as though they are one, this creates a lot of inconsistency with our clientele when society constantly reminds us we just aren’t “beautiful” enough.

What should our readers know about your business?
Located within a private studio based out of Aurora, clients can book appointments for a variety of services such as facials, eyelash extensions, and waxing at Estheticlly Skin Therapy. With support of family and my clients, I’ve been able to invest in my brand to become knowledgeable in various areas of esthetics including being certified in advanced facial techniques like microdermabrasion, dermaplane, and microneedle. Being certified in these types of advanced modalities allows me to treat all types of clientele and ehance the current services offered. As a freelance esthetician and business owner, this means I am also a marketing manager, a customer service representative, a receptionist, and a service provider. As many other business owners know, this means I am working 24 hours a day, 7 days a week building my brand and business. Building a fruitful career as a small business owner, and generally as a beauty professional is demanding, and requires a lot of determination and hustle. I love the personal and professional relationships I build with my clients, and am thankful to have been able to afford a luxury such as running my own business. The time and attention that I provide to my business, and clients is something I truly pride myself on, and cannot wait to see how much Esthetically will grow.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Colorado wouldn’t be itself without the mountains. Breckenridge, Vail and Aspen are amazing places for vacation as theres a multitude of things to do. Aside from the skiing and snowboarding culture, these mountain towns also have some amazing food, and drinks that are unique to what isn’t available in Denver. Meow Wolf, Hanging Lake, and Garden of the Gods are also notable locations in Colorado worth the drive, and the money. Colorado has a bunch of beautiful scenery to be explored, and is why many people move here.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
The biggest shoutout will always be dedicated to my mother, Celia Herrera, for always supporting me and showing me the honest version of a hustler. As a teen mom, and business owner, I watched her fight tooth and nail for the success she has created for her self. My biggest inspiration, and guidance is all because of her.
