We had the good fortune of connecting with Sayge Jenkins and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Sayge, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I kind of fell into this business. I always loved photography but I actually got my first DSLR camera as a push present when I had my son 7 years ago. The journey really started when I was just trying to get out of the house to combat postpartum and take some pictures of cows that lived near our house. Everyone loved my cow photos so much and kept insisting that I started doing family pictures. There was so much fear beginning because people and cows are a far cry from each other! I grew and grew until here I am 6 years later with multiple pictures published and awards from worldwide contests.
I am so thankful that I chose to grow and sculpt my craft because it has brought the most amazing people into my life.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
The trek to be a professional photographer is never an easy one. There will always be people that think you just click a button and throw on a filter. There is always going to be someone cheaper around the corner. I spend hours trying to brainstorm new creative sessions and always growing in my editing and skillset. My faith keeps me grounded because I firmly believe capturing these moments for families in my purpose and what God has put down inside of me cannot be copied by anyone else.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
When traveling to Colorado I really love Estes Park. One of my favorite moments in my life to date was having some light left after an elopement I found a field of elk. At a safe distance, of course, I sat in that field for an hour just watching them and taking pictures. I like to eat at mom and pop, hole in the wall places. I don’t travel there as frequently as I would like to for the best recommendations.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to thank my son, Kannon, for where I am today. If it was not for him I never would have bought my first camera. I never would have reached for the stars like I have because it was all to show him to keep going! Even on the days I was so frustrated and wanted to quit he told me he loved my pictures and I was the best photographer. He is also my favorite model.
Also, my husband for always being supportive and encouraging……and doing housework during my busy seasons and not complaining about pizza for dinner!!
