We had the good fortune of connecting with Scott Brenton and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Scott, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I am passionate about mushrooms and their ability to heal earth’s ecosystems as well as our minds and bodies. I also love working for myself and doing my own thing, so starting my own mushroom business was the perfect path for me to take.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I am from Michigan, and I have been cultivation mushrooms for a long time. I moved to Colorado in 2018, and finally turned my passion into a full time business in 2021. It is difficult to get a business going steadily enough to reach escape velocity, and having another job while you try is often very helpful. However, eventually, you need to take the leap. One of the most difficult things is scaling past the small stage so that you are able to afford the help that you need. The most important thing I have learned is that whatever it is that you want to do in life, just stick to it and persevere. Eventually, all of the time you have invested will materialize into something substantial. This lesson applies to anything in life, whether it is starting your own business, investing, or pursuing another passion.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If my best friend was visiting the area for a week, I would take them mountain biking in my favorite spots, both locally and farther up into the mountains. My favorite spots in Lyons are Hall Ranch and Heil Valley Ranch. I would also bring them to Betasso Preserve in Boulder, and Staunton State Park. Additionally, I would take a camping trip up to Hot Sulphur Springs for more mountain biking and hot springs.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to ackn0wledge my wife, Melanie, for being along for the ride all along. She has supported me through all of the ups and downs, and has always been here to help whenever I have been overwhelmed with work.
