We had the good fortune of connecting with Lindsay Hollister and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Lindsay, how does your business help the community?
In the United States, 40% of children are diagnosed with a chronic illness. Most of these illnesses are preventable with simple every day things. The problem is, medical providers don’t have the time or resources to provide what these kids need and they wind up just treating symptoms with prescription medications.

As a naturopathic doctor, I am well trained in how to support the body so it can heal itself. I work with parents to educate them so they can build a healthy household. I customize healing plans so they know what to feed their kids, how to ensure quality sleep, how to supplement nutritional gaps, and so on.

When families leave my office, they have a way forward. Parents feel validated and encouraged, and children feel empowered. This is creating a positive spin on health that is desperately needed in our society. When children recognize their body’s ability to heal itself, they become their own steward for healthy living.

Raising a generation of more healthy children will lead to more healthy adults who will then have more healthy children. We can actually change the scope of health in the world by following this pattern.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I’m the owner and sole practitioner of The Organic Cure.

My mission is to work together with health-minded parents who are challenging the status quo and help their kids achieve their full health potential. I use non-toxic methods that help the body heal itself.

I’m very proud of this mission because it postures me as an advocate for people who have been neglected by a broken system. By the time families come to see me, they’ve had numerous nightmarish experiences with medical providers who have wronged them in some way. I’m honored to be the provider who shows them genuine concern for their children’s health and really has a personal approach.

I didn’t want to start my own practice because I knew it would be hard – and I was right. It’s indescribably difficult to switch between wearing the doctor hat and the business owner hat. My life would be far more easy if I could see patients all day then clock out and be done. However, that wasn’t an option because a practice like mine didn’t exist. I had to create it in order to be the type of provider I wanted to be for people.

The first 2 years I ran on pure adrenaline. Then I started to burn out and I noticed my level of service was jeopardized by that. I was underperforming for my patients because I was working too hard. I hired help, which was really hard to do. I’m still working through that, because training someone to do things the way I want them done is very hard. But it’s had a positive impact on me personally, which has made it worth the investment.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
We’d go out for breakfast at Snooze, then go up to Gold Camp Road and hike around section 16.

We’d have a picnic lunch by helen hunt falls

I’d take them for an afternoon walk in Garden of the Gods, and watch the sunset from the lookout point.

That night we’d sit outside by the fire pit and enjoy good conversation after a nice day outside.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My husband, Scott Hollister. He is a dedicated Air Force Officer who has devoted his career ensuring the success of those around him. He is the most selfless person I’ve ever known. It was he who suggested I quit my job and pursue my doctorate, because he believed in me. He put his high-potential military career on hold, uprooted our family for my sake, took a job as a government contractor, and became the sole-provider while I immersed myself in schooling. He made countless sacrifices on my behalf and continues to do so, because he believes what I’m doing is important. I wouldn’t be where I am without his support and undying loyalty.
