We had the good fortune of connecting with Serena Jacob and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Serena, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I started working in the dental industry 15 years ago. I entered as a dental assistant, became an EDDA, (expanded duties dental assistant), performed orthodontics, and finally became the office manager. The experience showed me the importance of good bed side manner and the joy of helping people. Becoming the office manager had many challenges but also provided the rewards of hand picking my own staff, building relationships, and helping the business flourish. I had always been interested in esthetics and beauty, and decided it was time to venture out on my own and chase my passion. I started esthetician school and completed my boards while working a full time job. I was instantly addicted and continued to take several advanced courses which included injectables, permanent makeup, and laser treatments. Finally, I knew it was time to open my own med spa.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
We offer appearance-improving services and treatments under the care and direction of our experienced physician, nurses, and estheticians.
Lash + Company is a cutting edge medical spa that truly believes in beauty simplified. With over 10 years of experience, Lash + Company integrates a wide array of the freshest soft touch services with innovative medical cosmetic treatments and a service-centric team of artists who can help you achieve your desired look, waking up every morning feeling flawless.
Our team consists of a physician, nurses, and highly trained estheticians to ensure that you are getting the highest quality treatments available. We will only recommend treatments and products that we love, and think worthy of your time and your wallet.
I encourage the staff to continue in advancing their skills and training by continuing their education with Lash and Company by taking advanced courses.
Eventually, I would like to open more than one Lash and Company, offering my staff opportunities to grow and hopefully manage their own hand picked teams.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Well I am a huge fan of good food, so I think we would definitely have to start with breakfast at Lucile’s cafe. After breakfast we would take a stroll down Main Street to do some shopping and check out the local businesses. If I could talk her into it, we would head over to the Longmont airport and take a tandem jump with Mile High Skydiving. For lunch, I think I would choose Jefe’s and have a Margarita of course. After lunch we would head over to Studio Nailsspa for a mani/pedi. We would plan dinner and I think it would be a toss up between Sugar Beet or the Martini Bistro.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
First and foremost, I have to give a big shoutout to my family. I have two lovely teenage daughters, both in high school at the time, who helped out at home with their little brother, who is 3, while I took classes after work and on the weekends. My husband, Mikeal, who also supported my decision to leave my career and chase my dream.
I also would like to thank Lash and Company, Nick and Bailey, the owners, and all of their wonderful esthetic instructors. They gave us the opportunity and trust to open a franchise and supported us through the entire process.
Finally, I have to give a shout out to my staff. Jade, Shay, Maddie, and Pamela have been with us since we have opened, worked extra hard to promote success during our start and have strived to perfect and learn new skills every day.
