We had the good fortune of connecting with Shea Leah LeJeune and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Shea Leah, as a parent, what have you done for you children that you feel has had the most significant impact?
I love this question, because it makes me think. I don’t think it is truly answerable, but I will do my best to explain… I think my children will be able to answer this question when they turn 30 and look back. But I hope they will say… “my mom knew me, loved me and cherished me. She taught me how to work hard, love others with kindness and boundaries and handle my feelings in a healthy way.” I recently taught one of my four sons how to navigate anxiety at school. I’ll never forget the look on his face when he burst through the door, returning from school.
“It worked! That stuff you taught me to help with my anxiety, it worked!” I almost burst into tears of joy right then! That was one of my most rewarding moments I’ve had as a parent. In the following weeks his reading improved so entirely that they recommended he join the advanced program at school. Anxiety no longer had the control.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
My business is like none that I know of. My business is as unique as me! Through mostly TikTok I began a life coaching business in 2021 which has developed and changed into what it is now. The bread and butter of my business are people, my one on one weekly committed clients. These are people ready to grow, change and make the world a brighter place. They inspire me every month to continue my work.
Although I have a limited number of spots for one on ones, I find the one on one sessions with my committed clients are the most impactful and rewarding and powerful work that I do. I am most proud of watching my client come from anxious, stress and depressed, to a peaceful, happy, hopeful and powerful existence – where they are empowered to thrive!
I got to where I am in business by literally being true to who I am and sharing insights I have with others during lives on TikTok. 90% of my clients have come out of a free live discussion on TikTok. My clients say I’m different than other practitioners because – they knew they could trust me from the start. One client told me, “I loved your personality and your advice made so much sense – I knew I had to work with you.”
Starting my business was not easy. But I fought to build it with ease and grace. What I mean is, I started small and slow, organically built a tribe. I tried my best not to push or force anything and allow my business to bloom slowly and gracefully like a hearty sunflower.
The real challenge I have always had with my business is, my clients get better! And, Usually within six months to a year, my clients graduate, because I’ve given them the tools to succeed without a weekly session – and then I am on the hunt for the next new life to change. Although some coaches and professionals have encouraged me to keep my clients more long-term, that is not my goal. I want to make them better! Not make them need me every week…
I’ve learned so much along the way in the last few years by running my own business. Mostly I’ve learned about myself. Even in the leaner months, where profit was scarce, I’ve learned to trust, wait and be open to my next opportunity. In stead of clamming up in fear, doubting my ability to succeed, feeling like an imposter or working myself ragged to try to win – which were all challenges I grew through. I used to get more discouraged when my client load was light to nonexistent – But now, I let it grow as it always does, and wait with faith for the next wave of success to impact.
I think the most powerful key that I have as a life coach and public speaker is, me. My story, my memories and my gifts are truly unique to my field (the mental health world). I think this is partially because I am not a clinical psychologist, or even a conventional life coach. I am rather, a product of my inner work, my life experiences, my training, the research and education I’ve been through, but also of my spiritual gifting, for which I am eternally grateful.
My job has been made so much more fruitful when I lean into my spirituality and glean insights from the higher power who has infinite wisdom into all people and all situations no matter how challenging.
I used to struggle with severe debilitating anxiety (in 2012) and I was hospitalized and then I was a shut in for about eight weeks. That experience has forever shook me and formed me. I would not be the coach, the mother or the person I am today, had I not experienced pain, loss and a rebuilding that was so catastrophic, that I had to literally rebuild my entire life.
That significant rebuilding experience (I had at 25 years old) continues to shape my work, my writing, my coaching, my parenting, my marriage and continues to color who I will be tomorrow always a learner. And hopefully I will be more kind, wise, grounded and compassionate tomorrow than I am today.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I recently moved from Kansas City to Lafayette, Co, when my friends come visit for the week we will have so much fun exploring. We will likely walk about Lafayette, eat breakfast at Santiago’s, shop in all the boutiques on the main thoroughfare and drive to Boulder to hike. But I’m still learning the area.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I have four honorable mentions on my journey towards mental health and emotional maturity.
Kendana Kay – author and coach who has taught me so much by her example of authenticity, wisdom and emotional maturity. I wouldn’t be where I am without her example.
Marian Sorensen – life coach, heart healing practitioner and friend. I would not be where I am with my mental health if I hadn’t worked through the nitty gritty of my childhood, my trauma, pain and brokenness with Marian,
I call her my English mum, because she is something of a second mother to me.
Jay and Angel Guerra – my parents. Of course, anyone can say that they wouldn’t be the same without their parents. In fact, none of us would exist without them. However, I owe a great deal of debt to them for my ability to communicate and process feelings. The fact that I grew up in a house where feelings were safe to share, or even encouraged. I could cry, process and share about almost anything! While I was young I felt especially safe with my Dad and with my mom, I feel completely open in adulthood, safe and seen by my mother. For which I am so grateful.
