We had the good fortune of connecting with Shoni Bell and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Shoni, we’d love for you to start things off by telling us something about your industry that we and others not in the industry might be unaware of?
That my industry exists! I write résumés, cover letters and LinkedIn profiles for job seekers in multiple industries. Every professional should have a current résumé. Writing your own résumé is hard. Even with thousands of resources online, drilling down into your own accomplishments and putting it on paper in a concise, professional document is a challenge. Not to mention, all of the nuances with applicant tracking software systems out there.

Please tell us more about your work. We’d love to hear what sets you apart from others, what you are most proud of or excited about. How did you get to where you are today professionally. Was it easy? If not, how did you overcome the challenges? What are the lessons you’ve learned along the way. What do you want the world to know about you or your brand and story?
It was not an easy path to get where I am today. I worked in healthcare for 18 years. I wasn’t feeling challenged anymore so I sold my house, quit my job, and moved across the country. I didn’t have a plan other than to figure out what I wanted to do in life. It has been a practice of patience, paying attention to opportunities, and taking risks. You really don’t know until you try. This is the energy and attitude I bring when working with clients. I understand the workforce and why people get burnt out. I pride myself on my coaching abilities. I provide a ton of encouragement and accountability to my clients. I look at it as a relationship. Trust, care, and respect play huge parts in the process.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
This is a tough one with the current pandemic situation. I am a huge baseball fan so I would say you gotta go to Coors Field! It is beautiful and the area around the field on gameday is fun and full of energy. Denver Botanic Gardens for quiet beauty. Fire on the Mountain (W 32nd Ave) for fried pickles and a beer!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
It takes a village for sure. I have had great resources within my industry organizations – NRWA. SERW, and PARW. There is always more to learn and I find the information I gather from these places to be incredibly valuable. I also have my “mentor”, Cathy Lanzalaco, to thank for giving me tremendous support while I have been growing my business. We met while I was at my first résumé writers conference in 2019. Just one of those chance meetings that turn your life around!
