Meet Shweta Ahuja | Owner and Curator

We had the good fortune of connecting with Shweta Ahuja and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Shweta, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I’ve always had a love for fashion. Growing up in India, Indian clothes has always been my first love. Its all about the colors, fabric, hand work, embellishments, in short, the glam and glitter… its a beautiful experience!
After moving to the US in 2008 and working in the corporate sector as a Management professional, I always came across colleagues/friends who were invited to Indian weddings or festivals such as Diwali and wanted to try some Indian clothing but there were no easy to find boutiques, where you could feel, try and experience the Indian shopping spree. This inspired me to spark this journey!
I was like, lets do it!
I started very small of course, selling day to day basic Indian outfits to friends/colleagues; but Denver gave me so much love and support that I now own a full fledged boutique and keep adding more variety to my collection, from basic, to festive, to custom wedding outfits (brides/grooms), wedding party-wear and beyond!

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Omnama Fashions has believed in making this journey, no matter how short or long it is, to be a memorable experience!
Our customers are not only from Indian descent, we welcome people from all ethnicity’s, Our customers, come searching for Indian outfits which in general is a broad perspective, we take time to understand their needs and guide them on the different outfit options to choose from and try on vs letting them pick from the rack, Think of us as a personal stylist; who not only helps them pick the outfits but also helps elevate their looks by guiding them on colors / accessories / footwear / makeup etc. Along with this, we also prepare and help them be familiarized with what to expect at an Indian wedding or a festive event…
We ensure they are not overwhelmed, but feel comfortable and more importantly prepared! We want them to enjoy the richness of the Indian culture and happily blend into the traditions they are are planning to be a part of!
We feel proud that this journey and the experience allow us to be our customers designers again and again and that testament is our returning customers, word of mouth and quality of products and services we offer!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I love Colorado!
From Denver, to the Mountains and everything in between!
Almost every Saturday, we start off with Santiago’s Breakfast Burritos! (HOT for me and 1/2 and 1/2 for my kiddos), followed by a beautiful hike with the family, Roxborough State Park is one of our go-to!
Other places we enjoy are a stroll at Union Station, with a Happy hour at Machete, where we enjoy a few Sayulita’s, Shishito peppers and Tacos!
A quick day trip to help our visiting friends experience Denver and the Mountains would be a loop driving west on I-70, via Evergreen Park to Echo Lake near Mt. Evans, hike and picnic followed by a hearty early dinner and beers at Beau Jo’s in Idaho Springs!
Late night eateries like Jerusalem are must have’s if we are driving home late from the mountains or downtown!
Denver and the surrounding areas have a lot to offer, too many to list here 🙂

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My husband, Vivek. I never realized how much of a role your partner plays when you’re an entrepreneur.
In many ways they ‘re the default plus one for the wild roller coaster ride (whether they want to or not :))
I am the customer facing personal stylist, but Vivek is the anchor on the back-end; managing the ongoing operations, helping when and where i need it! silent supporter and advocate. Lifting me through my entrepreneurial lows, and celebrating each and every win. Without him, I would never be where I am today.
I’d also like to give credit to all my team of karigars and vendors in India who help make our customers vision into reality!
Last but not the least, i would like to thank all my customers… their trust in me and Omnama Fashions has encouraged me at every step! my biggest thanks to all my returning customers, beautiful brides and handsome grooms and their families who believed in our work and chose us to be a part of their special once in a life time event…
