Meet Sky Daniels | Writer and Podcast Host

We had the good fortune of connecting with Sky Daniels and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Sky, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
Ever since I was a little girl, I have been interested in the paranormal and unexplained. I distinctly remember writing an essay in elementary school about how I wanted to investigate ghosts and the paranormal for a living while all the other kids were writing about more practical things they wanted to be when they got older. I have also always loved to write, whether it was short stories or essays. Earlier this year, I had a blog that was doing quite well where I wrote about yoga, holistic medicine, recipes, and spirituality. It was something I was doing for fun, but deciding what to write about every week became a bit of a chore, so I decided to take a leap and start over with something new. I thought about that younger version of myself who wanted to investigate the supernatural; ghosts and other unexplained occurrences are still something I am fascinated with to this day. So, I started Residual Whispers as a blog where I wrote about haunted places around the world each week. Then I got the idea to turn it into a podcast as well, so that people could listen to these stories as well as read them. I invited my life long best friend to join me on the podcast, and Residual Whispers has already grown into more than I could’ve ever imagined it to be. In the future, we hope to share stories of our own ghost hunting adventures, around Colorado and elsewhere in the world. Looking into these haunted places around Colorado and the globe is so fascinating, because you get the chance to look deep into the history of some of the most famous places in the world, ensuring that these stories and the people who lived them are not forgotten. I also believe that investigating the paranormal is important, because if we are able to prove that ghosts exist, we could answer one of the biggest questions of mankind: what happens after we die?

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
When it comes to the podcasting, I think that Brian and I have a chemistry that really sets us apart. Both of our personalities really come through to our listeners, and I think that you can just tell that we love to work together and we have a passion for what we do. When it comes to the writing and storytelling, we really dig deep into the history of the locations and events that we cover, and hours of work goes into every blog post and episode. I am also a registered yoga teacher, and people loved my posts about yoga and the healthy recipes that I would share, so deciding to leave that blog behind and try something new that may be a little out there to people was a bit scary. But I want to encourage others to take that risk when it feels right, because you never know what can happen when you finally take that first step in pursuit of a dream. People can sense the passion you have when you do something you love, and often you feel a lot more inspired and motivated to put the effort into what you’re creating when you really enjoy it. Don’t let a fear of failure or being judged hold you back from creating something amazing. I get so much joy out of looking into these haunted locations every week, and I think that exploring the spiritual and supernatural side of life is really important. It’s also important that we remember that the ghosts and spirits who remain in these haunted locations were real people who had lives and memories of their own. Investigating why they remain tied to these locations to this day is important to answering some of the biggest questions in life. I am excited to see where Residual Whispers goes from here. I am really looking forward to investigating some of these locations ourselves, so that we can bring our own evidence to the table and contribute to the world of paranormal investigation. Colorado is home to some of the most famous haunted locations in the world, such as the Stanley Hotel, and the spooky history is part of what draws people to them.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
When it comes to exploring some of the haunted locations in Colorado, the Stanley Hotel is one of the first that comes to mind for people due to its notoriety. If you’re visiting Colorado in search of ghosts, you’d be remiss not to stay a night there. Cheesman Park in Denver is well known as being the former location of Mount Prospect Cemetery, and many people have reported strange paranormal encounters there. The home of the famous Titanic survivor Molly Brown is also located in Denver, and rumored to be haunted as well. In Colorado Springs, Gold Camp Road is well known to the locals for its urban legends, and also a beautiful place to hike with gorgeous views of the city. Cave of the Winds is located here as well, and they offer lantern lit tours of the caves where you can hear its many ghost stories. Manitou Springs also has its own haunted locations to offer, including the Briarhurst Manor, an excellent choice if you want to dine with spirits. Due to the state’s extensive gold rush history, places like Cripple Creek and Victor are well known former mining towns where many spirits from that time are rumored to remain. Even the famous Doc Holliday is buried in Glenwood Springs. You can hunt for ghosts while taking in the beauty of the Rocky Mountains in pretty much every area of the state.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My best friend Brian, who has been the best and most supportive co-host of the podcast I could’ve asked for. He has always been such a wonderful friend to me, and we have so much fun recording the podcast every week for our listeners. He brings a sense of humor and commentary to the podcast that makes it even more enjoyable to listen to.
My boyfriend Michael, who edits the podcast each week. He is a musician and uses his sound recording technology to make sure that the audio is high quality. He also created our theme music. He is so loving and supportive of my dreams, and Brian and I absolutely couldn’t do this without him.
My grandmother, who instilled my love for books and reading at a young age, and always encouraged me when it came to writing and pursuing my dreams.
My parents, my brother Preston, and my little sister Hayden who have always lifted me up and kept me going.
And of course, all the paranormal investigators that I’ve been watching on TV since I was younger. I wouldn’t be interested in these kinds of things without them.
