We had the good fortune of connecting with Solange Leavitt and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Solange, what’s the most important thing you’ve done for your children?
As a parent I feel one of the most important things I have done is to show my children that they really can be anything they want to be when they grow up. As a kid you are always asked what you want to be when you grow up. I always knew I wanted to do something with animals but didn’t know what career that would be as in my head was always the voice of reason telling me to be practical. I took some different paths before getting to where I am today. Soap making started as a hobby and to help my son who has eczema. It blossomed into this amazing career that I love. I hope my children find something they love and can turn it into a career too. I hope I inspire my own children as well as other kids to follow their hearts and know that it’s true that they really can be whatever they want to be when they grow up!

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I own and operate Noisy Acres Farm, a micro goat farm and licensed dairy in Southern Maine. We have a small herd of goats that we raise holistically, hand milk each day, and love like family. With their wonderful milk I make goats milk soap and fresh cheese! I make soap the old fashioned cold-process way using simple, pure, and all natural ingredients such as sustainable oils, herbs that we grow in our own herb gardens, and natural clays and organic spices for coloring. Only essential oils are used for gentle scent. Each batch of soap has lots of goats milk all from our own herd of goats. All of our cheese is made by me in our licensed dairy kitchen right here on our farm using milk from only our own herd of happy goats.

It was in the fall of 2016 that we acquired our first two goats as companions for our horse and to provide our son who has allergies with fresh nutritious milk. We immediately fell in love with their unique personalities and their delicious milk! At the time I worked outside of the home but my heart was continuously pulled to be at home with my family more and to follow a different career path. I started making soap as a hobby and for my son who has eczema. Friends and family loved the soap and I was invited to join a winter farmers market. With the encouragement and support from my husband I left my job which felt both scary and exciting. I started with one farmer’s market and gradually added additional markets and some wholesale accounts. I built a website which was a lot of work and really difficult but I’m super glad I did it. I wanted to add cheese but was really intimidated by all of the regulations it takes to become a licensed dairy. After much research and meeting with the dairy inspector who was extremely helpful my husband built our milking parlor and cheese kitchen and we were able to become a licensed dairy. Step by step, gradually over time, I have grown Noisy Acres Farm into my full time dream career.

I admire a holistic approach to life and it brings me joy to tend to my farm and business in this way. I enjoy caring for my goats each day, I feel good about the ingredients that go into making each product, and feel positive about every step of the process. I hope I inspire my own children as well as other kids to follow their hearts and know that it’s true that they really can be anything they want to be when they grow up. I hope everyone who uses Noisy Acres Farm products feels good about them and that they bring more happiness to your day!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would take them to the beach! The sound of waves and sunshine at the ocean warms anyone’s heart and brings joy to the soul. We would then come back to the farm and have cocktails and cheese in the backyard and watch the goats play. For dinner we would dine at Krista’s in Cornish because both the food and the atmosphere are the best!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
To my husband Chris for always encouraging me to follow my heart
