We had the good fortune of connecting with Sonja Lilljeberg and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Sonja, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
When I started out wanting to work for myself I had very little understanding of what that looked like. My dad was an entrepreneur and that made the idea of doing my own thing a bit easier. I knew that what I had to offer was not available in a traditional massage/spa setting. I knew that I wanted to make my own path, see my clients where they were most comfortable and give a personalized service. I started out in Chicago seeing only a few private clients but also working for a fitness facility. It gave me a small amount of leeway to do my own thing but not enough to customize my services. My move to NYC is what really changed my perspective on the type of services I really wanted to provide. NYC was the major turning point in deciding to create my own business. It gave me the real opporunity to do my own thing.
I went to clients’ homes, providing a completely customoized service along with a better use of my skills. This gave me a chance to start building my own practice, my own way of being within the wellness industry and what did or didn’t work for me as a business owner.
Moving to Denver is what really allowed me to change my thoughts around what my business looked like. I became an LLC, I had a brick & motar location and I revamped what type of services I was offering. My thoughts of what my business was becoming really became clear. It all comes down to knowing I was going to provide a service that was not currently out there by anyone else. That was my number one driver!

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
As an Intuitive Healer, my goal is to help people heal both physically & emotionally via energy work. People have this amazing ability to heal themselves when given the tools to understand how to do that. Our bodies are amazing and have this capacity to take care of itself, if we let it happen. Sure we all need external help: true medical help, phsyical help (massage, chiropractic, acupuncture, etc) along with emotional/mental help. But knowing how to use your own body to do the work, amazing! My desire is that people learn to trust their intuition. We all have it but some of us use it less than others. We seek validation from everyone else besides ourselves. My services, coaching programs and intuitive mentoring give you the skills necessary to tap back in to self trust and intuition. Our bodies are complex and do some wonderful things if we give ourselves the chance. I have recently started mentoring people that are looking to tap into their personal Intuition better. You don’t have to want to practice Intuitve healings or readings for others to go through this mentoriship. It’s about understanding message from Source and how we can “hear” or interpret that message. It’s about learning that self trust again. It’s about learning to seek validation from within.
My ultimate hope and wish is that people learn to be self aware on how to heal, listen to Source and use intuition to create awareness. There’s nothing more attractive in a human that being self aware and having personal confidence!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Denver is so diverse, I think a week is a great amount of time to show people around. I live near Wash Park so I think I would start with my hood! Breakfast snacks and coffee/tea at Rise & Shine Biscuit, Steam on S Pearl or Molecule Effect. Having lived in big walkable cities for a long stint before coming to Denver, I am a big fan of walking. So definitely grabbing our beverages and head for a stroll through Wash Park! Lunch might be at Bon Ami creperie, their French food is divine. Staying in the area for dinner I might head to S Gaylord, S Pearl or S Broadway. For more walking and just enjoying Denver RiNo is one of my favorites for the food, the street art and a bit of shopping. Dinner in RiNo at the Greenwich is proabably a must. I pretty much take everyone there that has visited me since it opened, I work in the Highlands so a visit to the food shops are never a bad idea. I love brunch at The Bindery and dinner at Bar Dough. My mom grew up in that neighborhood so it’s always fun to see where she lived! I’m a fan of exploring things also outside of Denver if I have friends in town. Boulder for food, local shopping and hiking the Flatirons! You can never go wrong in Boulder. Maybe we head up to the mountains one day – like historic Georgetown for a train ride through the old mines, local beers at the brewery and antique shopping. While I’m not a heavy drinker I am always down for good beverages! Forget Me Not in Cherry Creek North is one of my favorites for great drinks! I also believe that one of the unique parts of living in Denver or Colorado for that matter is seeing the Red Rocks or Hogbacks. You can go to Red Rocks Amphitheater or Roxbourgh Park, they are both awe inspiring and massive, mind blowing views and just good exercise.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would love to acknowledge that my community at Nurture in the Denver Highlands has helped boost my journey. My colleagues range from long standing business owners to newbies learning from the ground up. It has been a grand community to be part of as we all support each other by sending referrals, business building ideas along with how to succeed in Denver’s market.
