Meet Sonya Battle | Founder/CEO- The Teacher’s Resource

We had the good fortune of connecting with Sonya Battle and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Sonya, have there been any changes in how you think about work-life balance?
LOL, I am still trying to decide if there is really such a thing as Work/Life balance. I completely understand what is meant when we say it, but I’m not sure if it’s attainable in the context that is mostly meant. Here is what I mean, when I think work- going work, what is expected of me at work, and what I need to achieve, in most jobs those expectations are already written out. My corporate job calls it “Steps to Success”, you have a checklist of tasks/things you can do that will help you reach your career path goals. Life, not so much! Life just happens we don’t have a “Step to Success” per se in life-are there steps you can take to help you obtain success in life, absolutely.
For me it makes it challenging sometimes to create a Work/Life balance. Over time, I have found that my balance comes from focus, time management, planning that includes trying to anticipate future needs, and having a dependable support system. Is my system 100% balance proof, no, but if something beyond my control happens in my life, I will more likely be able to adjust work to fit the balance needed in my life at that time. That helps me to think about balance being positive and something I can achieve more consistently.

What should our readers know about your business?
I get to serve an amazing organization called: The Teacher’s Resource (TTR). We are a faith-based national nonprofit for teachers. Our sole focus and goal is to provide exclusive self-care and support for teachers’ total well-being- mentally, emotionally, a physically. Our motto is: “Taking care of the PERSON behind the teacher” Teachers are people first!
TTR is only 1 year and a few months are so old. We started during the pandemic on 08/11/2020. TTR is 100% a God idea. The way it came to be – one of the amazing teachers during the beginning of the pandemic posted “Pray for teachers, we are not ok”. I did just that and the amazing idea was born! We are literally connected to teachers throughout the US and other countries because we started online. I live in North Carolina, charity starts at home and spread abroad, I will always take care of my home. Our build is to support teachers nationwide. When TTR was started a part of the research done, was to see was there another non-profit, for-profit, group, or organization anywhere that has this unique and much-needed goal of taking care of the person behind the teacher. To our surprise there was not, It was evident in our research that teachers everywhere needed TTR.
It has not been easy, the sacrifices are great, but it is definitely a worth-it work. I have gotten where I am today in business and life by keeping God first and not being intimidated by ideas, goals, dreams, and visions that have been assigned to me and are bigger than me. I maintain focus, prayer, hard work, integrity, mentors, prepare, plan, study, and research. I have learned that you have to believe in yourself without waver or doubt. You have to be first in showing up for yourself. Fear can never be your compass, guide, or consultant – it must be faith. You can not be afraid to put in the work, helping others from a sincere place is a selfless act. You must ensure that what you are doing is your God purpose and passion. It’s important to stay humble, be open to constructive criticism, help others along the way, give back, have people around that have reached where you are trying to grow to. I have learned that the word leader is really spelled, TEAM!
What I would like the world to know about TTR is that now more than ever teachers need a safe place a hub that is just for them and their total care, as a PERSON first. We are the first of our kind to offer care for teachers on this level. We have set up our organization, programs, and services to work for the benefit of the person behind the teacher, to be their advocates. Healthy people make Healthy teachers!
