We had the good fortune of connecting with Sonya Netter-Rodrigues and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Sonya, looking back, what do you think was the most difficult decision you’ve had to make?
The most difficult decision I have ever had to make was to believe in myself, trust myself and my instincts. Having your own business puts you in control of your own destiny. You get what you put into it and your passion drives your success. Your clients can feel the love you put into your work. You also need to set healthy boundaries and now your limits. Again the most difficult decision is to trust yourself and take the jump into entrepreneurship
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am an artist in every way. My canvas of choice for my career is hair. I absolutely love painting hair. I get my inspirations from everything around me. Nature is incredible and the colors are amazing. I try and take those colors and apply them to hair color. People trust me to help them express their love for colors as well, I am always happy to oblige. I run my own business, Perfectly You Hair Salon. I love everything about it, connecting with people, constant learning, endless creativity and making peoples visions come to life. Being an artist is hard because you place your work out there for the world to see, My art is living, breathing, walking canvases, out there for everyone to take in and see. It is always a little nerve wrecking to have your work out for public display, the one thing I have to say is I am my biggest critic, I always strive to do a little better every single time in any way. Asking myself what could I have done to make it just a little more. That is how I challenge myself and keep my creativity ambitious and hungry for more. The hardest lessons come in the form of disappointment, It has happened when I was unable to bring someones vision to life, I try and educate and not go past what is physically capable and that can lead to disappointment in many ways, for myself as well as for my client. I believe in fun beautiful hair, either natural colors, natural texture or bright and vibrant. The integrity of peoples hair is my biggest priority and that can lead to education over color application with clients. My brand is me and my belief is your hair is “Perfectly You”
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Oh, that is a tough one, First of all we would be going all over the place!
We would spend time paddle boarding at Gross Reservoir, Cocktails and dinner at The Butchery in Arvada,
Then a few days down south in Manitou springs, I love the quaint little town with so many unique shops. Next stop would be the Cheyenne mountain zoo because who doesn’t like feeding giraffes, Then dinner and cocktails at Lot One in Arvada.
another day would be spent walking around Stanley lake and just enjoying the sound of the water and playing by the shore, maybe a little fishing too. Maybe a trip up Estes park for a hike to Emerald lake shopping and lunch at Claires restaurant. By the end off all that I think everyone might be a little exhausted but well worth it.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My shout goes to my biggest cheerleader and best friend/ boyfriend Guillermo (Will) Anguiano. He has always brought me up when I start to hesitate or doubt myself in any way. His encouragement helped jump start me into this career.
