We had the good fortune of connecting with Staci and Melanie Pettibone/Bernal and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Staci and Melanie, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
Our desire is to maintain our livelihood and thrive while we bring healing, love, laughter and joy into the world. Our goal is to carry these things in the world through the operation of our small family owned business and the commitment to volunteer our services to non-profit organizations every month.
We have decided to be the creators of our reality and desire to share our creation with others. We value the intention of serving the highest good for us all.
We both spent a couple decades in Human Services before deciding that we wanted to help people in a different way. We always enjoyed trading massages with eachother for stress reduction and one day we woke up and decided that this is what we wanted to do every single day. We then decided we would go to school for Massage Therapy together and during our schooling we came to a quick realization that we wanted to work for ourselves. The biggest reason for starting our own practice was so that we could set up the space, the sessions, the time between sessions and even the pricing at a pace where we felt comfortable and knew that we could have longevity in our career and with our Partners in Healing (clients).
What should our readers know about your business?
We’ve created this practice from the ground up, together. The cornerstones of our business practice are: Self, Family, Community, and Planet.
Self.
At Whole Healing Space we believe that in order to better serve and love others, it is necessary to first serve and love ourselves. We must be able to step into our own internal whole healing space with unconditional love for ourselves and bring healing to ourselves. When we fail to care for ourselves we can’t be the best version of ourselves and we then deprive our fellow beings of the amazing love and healing that we are truly able to offer.
Family.
We believe that once an individual begins to lean into self-love and self-healing the effects trickle and permeate into our families. This in turn ignites love and healing within each individual of the family and has an uplifting, profound affect on all relationship connections.
Community.
We believe that the family is an integral part of the community and as such impacts the community at large. As families grow emotionally, mentally and spiritually this growth expands into the community, creating a space in which people can engage in genuine connections with those around them. The better we feel the more we want to help others to feel better, and the more connected we become as a community. Whole Healing Space is accepting of all beings, regardless of race, religious beliefs, gender identification, sexual orientation, political stance, ethnicity, etc. We are LGBTQIA+ friendly, pet friendly, all living beings friendly! Whole Healing Space has made the commitment to provide free healing services to local non-profit organizations regularly in order to support our local community. We have chosen to offer this to non-profit organizations focusing on human/social services, animal care/protection, and environmental stewardship.
Planet.
Just as I am not separate from you, and you are not separate from me, we are not separate from the Earth. As we embark on our journey of self-healing we begin to attune to the truth of who we are and are awakened to the realization that WE ARE EARTH. Not only are we composed of the same elements, but we came from Earth and to Earth we shall return. As we grow and develop biologically we depend upon the fruit of the Earth to provide us with all that we need to survive and thrive. The electromagnetic energy that fuels our bodies functions best and is most balanced when in harmony with the Earth’s energy. In essence, the healing of ourselves, our families and our communities, manifests as healing for our Mother Earth as well.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
There are so many amazing things to do and see here in Manitou Springs and Old Colorado City! We would absolutely be having some wine at Swirl Wine Bar and having dinner at The Keg or Monse’s Pupuseria. The local music scene is awesome and we love to check out who’s playing at The Armadillo or LuLu’s Downstairs or Kinfolks. There are some amazing shops to check out, like La Henna Boheme, Sun Mountain Bath Co., The Brazen Bee, La Tienda, and Southwest Silver Company. A trip here would not be complete without hiking some of the local trails and chucking it up the Incline. And for the gamers among us, we would definitely be playing some MTG or D&D at Dice Guys!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Our #1 dedication is and always will be, to our kiddo, Jazz! They are one of the biggest reasons why we have created this life. We want to show them that they are capable of anything that they put their mind to, as long as it is done in a place of love.
We would also love to give a shout out to our Partners in Healing! We are bringing in the most amazing, kind, loving and supportive folks.
And last, but certainly not least, a shout out goes to the community that we live in and love. Manitou Springs, CO is the best!
