We had the good fortune of connecting with Stephanie Dahl and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Stephanie, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
What could go wrong? I had the gift of being naive and not understanding the weight of that question. When we elected to start our business, we wanted to find a different way to practice law. We wanted to be accessible to our clients, we wanted our clients to feel like they found a support system and we wanted to have a practice where we felt we were really helping our clients. While it has evolved over time, we have created that.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
We are a small law firm. We focus on estate planning and business law. Being small allows me, as an owner, to work directly with our clients. It has taken some time to come to this realization, but we do not want to become a large firm, handing clients off to associates or paralegals. We spend our time and energy figuring out how to improve the client experience and we strongly believe that a big part of that experience is developing a relationship with our clients.

We have had growing pains along the way. We have expanded and contracted and these experiences have led us to where we currently are, which is a boutique size firm with direct interaction with our clients. We have learned that it is difficult to find people who will value our business and, by extension, our clients as much as we do, so we have decided to keep things small so that we can always be proud of the level of service we provide. We have also learned that small does not mean unsuccessful. We hope people leave our office feeling important and well taken care of. For us, we have discovered that to accomplish this goal, we want to be directly involved in the client experience. Our clients are why we do the work we do.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
As a Colorado native, I don’t know that I always appreciate this incredible state that we live in. However, I can say some of the highlights of this amazing state are a concert at Red Rocks, a Bronco’s game at Mile High, driving in the mountains when the leaves change in the fall, a summer night outside on a patio with friends and watching a Rockies game at Coors Field at sunset. We love a fun happy hour or family dinner on the patio at La Fogata or YaYas, you will always run into someone you know!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Hands down that would have to be my law partner, Kelly Fischer. She and I have built this business together, faced the hard times and celebrated the wins. Her intelligence, her calm demeanor and drive keep us moving forward and me motivated.
