We had the good fortune of connecting with Stephanie Hawthorne and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Stephanie, what role has risk played in your life or career?
I have been selling residential real estate for about 10yrs and only recently got into commercial investing. The first investment was in a little commercial building/restaurant in 2019. I met a guy, Jesse Scott who asked me if I would be interested in partnering in the purchase with him. At this time in my career I have bought and sold residential only. Our business ethics and practices align so I thought Why Not? The purchase would be considered risky as we didn’t have any experience in commercial real estate. But I knew once we figured this out, it would be our first of many because it felt right. There were a lot of obstacles to overcome, but now, when we look at adding to our portfolio, we run through the exercise of why we shouldn’t do it, what happens if we don’t. Nothing changes if we don’t grow or do something unknown. Stagnant is more risky to me than the fear of unknown. I think that missing out on an opportunity is risky. As long as you can put something in front of you and try doing it, there is no loss. As broad as a statement as that may be, I have seen fear of trying or failing be a bigger factor of life decisions, and that is risky to me. I have tried things that are unconventional and that I may not have completed, but the experience help me view and practice differently then I had before. Those small journeys are also wins. Risk is in my life’s role, more comfortably than fear. I have just learned how to master it and have fun while doing it. I feel like this mindset helps me navigate, empower, and present options to my clients when they are buying and selling so they can do it confidentially.

What should our readers know about your business?
I am a real estate agent, but what sets me apart is that I invest in people; I just happen to do it in the real estate industry. Relationships are most important to me and I cater to families, builders, developers, investors, etc.. by identifying their needs through real estate. I love assisting people through the process and try to make the journey a positive experience for all parties involved. Most of the time people need to buy/sell because of life, death, marriage, divorce or moving..all very stressful situations! I become a manager of emotions, people and process which is customized case by case. So it is never boring!! I genuinely care about what I do and love the people and process involved. My biggest challenge with what I do is not taking it home. Helping people doesn’t stop when I get home and I need to work on boundaries so it doesn’t affect my kids and husband.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I LOVE living here so a week would be packed tight! Paddle boarding, kayaking, fishing and mountain biking are all on the itinerary that are an hour or less away! I love going to Old Colorado City for a Chinese tea ceremony at Yellow Mountain Tea House with some amazing handmade dim sum. Jake and Telly’s upstairs also has a great selection of authentic Greek food! A massage and spa experience at Garden of the Gods Resort is a must as well as drinks and sunset at the infinity pool that will inspire conversation and dreams! Cork and Cask is a great local bar with tapas and drinks that fill you belly as you take in the chandeliers and ‘dark’ art of clowns and creepy kids! The Broadmoor is a must for drinks and dinner at the Tavern and then a stroll across the lake..stop by the firepit for smores if dessert sounds pleasing.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
SO MANY DESERVE RECONGNITION!! Jesse Scott has been a large part of my growth into my achievements. While our partnership with investments maybe messy, complicated and has turbulence, we have always respected each other and kept our main focus as to helping others collectively. My family has sacrificed a lot with an Agent Mom.. it comes with a lot of flexibility and patience. My friends are a strong network that I get to bounce ideas off of that help create my deal flow. My team behind me like my work wife Lena Stepehns, my stager Kelsey Kelly and photographer Janet Smith. Lastly, my amazing clients who trust me in the process of this crazy real estate journey.
