We had the good fortune of connecting with Stephanie Trowbridge and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Stephanie, other than deciding to work for yourself, what was the single most important decision you made that contributed to your success?
As a business woman it has been important to realize the worth of my time, ability and product. At first it is easy to diminish myself because I want my clients to like me or want my services. However, I was not finding the clients I wanted. I started charging what I am worth and the clients began coming in. Clients who want the best will then pay for the best. It was a difficult decision, but has paid off. I have a higher satisfaction in my own work and it shows.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I started with film photography in middle school and high school. Twelve years ago I switched to digital and my skills took off. I became so busy I started my official business. Families, children and babies take the cake. I love investing in the lives of my clients, especially the families who join me every year for a session. It’s been a process of growth, one which isn’t always easy. The best advice I’ve received is to charge what I’m worth. When I finally made the choice, it was well worth it.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I love so many Colorado locations. First, I’d show off our Denver REI and Clear Creek with the view of the city. Next, a long afternoon at Flights in Old Towne Arvada followed by a patio dinner nearby. A night up in Granby for beautiful views and snowshoeing would be a must with a stop at Sharky’s Eatery in Frasier.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My favorite organization I photograph for is Hope House of Colorado. Being able to empower young women who are becoming self-sustaining for themselves and their children bring me great joy. All women, no matter where we find ourselves, need to be empowered to be the best we can be.
