We had the good fortune of connecting with Stevie Murdock and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Stevie, how do you define success?
Success means different things to different people. For me, success is the feeling of fulfillment when I have done a job well. It’s that feeling of complete exhaustion and happiness after spending 8 hours capturing a wedding. Success is working a job all hours of the day and still WANT to work more.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Stevie Faye Photography is a photography company specializing in weddings and family that I started in 2018. I bought my first DSLR camera to help me capture my growing children. Time was fleeting and I wanted to be able to freeze it somehow. Once I realized I had a passion for it, and a talent, I decided to start my business. Since then, I have hit multiple road blocks. The wedding industry can be an isolating place and I didn’t have a group of people to help answer the growing list of questions. It was extremely difficult. I knew I had everything I needed to make this a successful business, but doubt is an evil thing. Once I started making connections, taking classes, signing up for styled shoots, and joining the Business Map, everything changed. I became more confident and my work improved at the same time. Finding your people can make or break your business!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I am based out of Medford, Oregon but travel everywhere I can for my work. If a friend were to visit Medford, the first place we would start is Good Bean for breakfast. A quaint coffee shop just down the street – it has the best coffee and delicious breakfast. We would then drive through the historic town of Jacksonville, maybe do a little shopping, then hit the vineyards. The Rogue Valley has more vineyards than you can count! Over the week, I’d love to hit up Crater Lake National Park, hike the table rocks, visit the ocean, Shasta Ski Resort, and the numerous lakes Southern Oregon has. Medford is so centrally located, everything is within a few hours. We have a lot of great “mom and pop” restaurants so eating delicious food is never a problem!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
There are countless people who have stepped up and into my life to make this career what it is. Honestly, the biggest impact came almost two years ago when I found Jai Long and his business courses. He is a photographer turned educator and his passion for helping others is infectious. The community that he has created has helped me in numerous ways; from solving simple problems, to leads, to creating my styled shoots. His business modules have helped me learn how to organize and structure my company to reach goals I never imagined possible.
