Meet Sydney Pollock | Owner, The Borrowing Bride

We had the good fortune of connecting with Sydney Pollock and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Sydney, maybe we can start at the very start – the idea – how did you come up with the idea for your business?
The idea for The Borrowing Bride came from recognizing a significant gap in the wedding industry. While there are many large companies that provide the basics like tables, chairs, and linens, we noticed a lack of services for the smaller, decorative elements that make a wedding truly unique and personalized.

We wanted to offer items that add those special touches and make a couple’s big day feel truly like them. Our goal is to take the stress out of wedding planning by providing a seamless and hassle-free rental process. Instead of couples buying hundreds of candles or other decorations that they’ll never use again, we offer a practical solution by renting these items. This way, they can have a beautifully decorated wedding without the hassle of post-event storage or waste.

Ultimately, The Borrowing Bride aims to provide the detailed decor that transforms a wedding from ordinary to extraordinary, ensuring that every couple’s vision is brought to life in a cost-effective and eco-friendly way.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My career journey has been an exciting adventure filled with learning, growth, and a lot of hard work. I started in the Sports Industry, working for The Colorado Rockies for 8 seasons. At the time, working for a professional sports team was my ultimate goal. After some great memories and learning experiences there, I realized that I was meant to work for myself rather than someone else.

While planning my own wedding, The Borrowing Bride was presented for sale to me. I was already looking for a way out of a corporate job, and this just felt right. Best decision I have ever made, besides marrying my husband 😉

I am most proud of where I have taken the company and all of the brides and grooms I have been able to help along the way. Seeing all of the planning come together on wedding day always makes my heart happy, it’s the best feeling!

One of the biggest challenges was navigating the uncertainties of leaving a salary job to run my own business. Not knowing when your next paycheck is coming in is truly scary, but in the end, so worth it!
I have learned that building a supportive network of mentors and peers plays a crucial role in overcoming obstacles.

Through this journey, I’ve learned several valuable lessons. First, perseverance is key. There will always be hurdles, but staying committed to your goals makes a difference. Second, always listen to your customers. Their feedback is invaluable and has helped me continuously improve my services. Lastly, embrace innovation and be willing to adapt. The market is always evolving, especially the wedding market, and staying ahead requires creativity and flexibility.

I want the world to know that The Borrowing Bride is more than just a business; it’s a passion project aimed at making wedding dreams come true in a sustainable and stress-free way. Our story is about filling a niche with heart and creativity, and we’re excited to continue growing and helping couples create beautiful, personalized weddings.

Ultimately, my journey has taught me that success comes from hard work, a clear vision, and a willingness to learn and grow. I am excited about the future and look forward to what’s next for The Borrowing Bride.

Oh, this is tough! Denver is such a great city and has so many great things to do. I’ll hone in on more of my “ideal two days in Denver”:

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
The Borrowing Bride wouldn’t be afloat without my husband, Tyler. He is the backbone of this business in many ways, so much so that you might see him at a wedding near you soon!

My mother, Jeana, has been my mentor since I first took over the business. It has been a true honor to watch her and my aunt, Shelly, build their company from the ground up to what it is today. They have been incredible role models and have always given me great advice.

Aaron, my boss during my time at The Rockies, always put his full trust in me and made me realize that I am capable of far more than I ever thought possible.
