We had the good fortune of connecting with Tajuddin Ashaheed and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Tajuddin, how has your background shaped the person you are today?
I was born in Texas but I grew up in different parts of the country, mostly Maryland, although I lived in Texas, California and Alabama, as well as Colorado. My background was panoramic which allowed me to appreciate and be curious about different types of people, and cultures which have all contributed to the person that I am today. I am an incessant researcher, which means I am constantly learning and trying to grow from the different types of knowledge I absorb from so many different types of people.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am currently a reentry specialist and also a security consultant. I started in market research after a period of incarceration, where I ended up working for the President of the United States, managing his public opinion polling. Of course it was my prior experience with incarceration that eventually led me to working in the field of reentry, while my experience as a mixed martial artist landed me in the world of bodyguarding/security. The assent to where I am today was not easy but I was blessed to operate with the utmost of professionalism and integrity which created many opportunities that a lot of people with my background don’t experience. I work as a program manager teaching courses and providing services to parolees as well as inside some of the very prisons I did time in as a youth. On the security side I have provided security at amazing venues and have been bodyguard to numerous VIPs from professional athletes, to actors, to rap Superstars. Being the recipient of amazing opportunities has taught me to take advantage of opportunities to provide the same to others and I have been able to mentor people in terms of character and integrity.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Over the course of a week I probably recommend a couple of restaurants downtown, and I have friends in the local entertainment industry so I would definitely drop into a few nightclubs as well as be able to score some pretty good tickets to shows. Colorado was a place where you can pretty much do any and everything in terms of visiting, entertainment, and even Sports and hiking so it wouldn’t be too hard to find some pretty cool places to hang out.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
The Second Chance Center definitely deserves credit and recognition. It is the states preeminent re-entry organization that works tirelessly and successfully to help people transition from incarceration to a life of success and fulfillment
