Meet Tara Booze | Denver-Based Yoga Teacher/Entrepreneur & EDM Wellness Innovator

We had the good fortune of connecting with Tara Booze and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Tara, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I started State of Flow and my signature offering “Beats, Bass, and Breath: EDM Yoga Flow” because I wanted to create something totally unique—something that honored both my love for yoga and the deep sense of connection I’ve always felt in EDM culture.I had taught at studios before, but often felt boxed in—like I had to fit into this mold of what a “traditional” yoga teacher should be. I craved more creativity, more music, more movement that reflected the way I actually experience life.
The more time I spent in the EDM community, especially at festivals, the more I saw the same values I found in yoga: presence, self-expression, community, and even spiritual awakening. I realized there was already this beautiful overlap—people who dance to feel free, to connect, to heal. I didn’t need to invent something entirely new; I just needed to bring these worlds together in a way that made sense for my own practice and the people I wanted to serve. That’s when the vision really clicked.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
State of Flow Yoga and its signature offering, Beats, Bass, and Breath, is where movement meets EDM culture. I create classes that blend yoga, intentional breathwork, and dance-like flow to the sounds of electronic music—from bumping bass, to deep house to dreamy ambient tracks. What sets us apart is the vibe: it’s not about performing perfect poses, it’s about feeling something—joy, release, connection, presence.
I’m most proud of creating a space that gives people permission to show up fully as themselves. The people who come to class aren’t just looking for fitness—they’re seeking freedom, emotional expression, and community. Many of them say, “This is a safe space to be who I am.” That’s everything to me.
Getting here wasn’t easy. Starting a business in the wellness world, especially one that doesn’t look like the status quo, comes with a lot of doubt—from yourself and others. There were moments where I questioned if people would get it. I’ve taught to empty rooms, navigated burnout, and struggled with the comparison trap. But I kept going because I believed in the experience I was offering. The biggest lesson I’ve learned? Stay rooted in why you started. Your authenticity is your best marketing strategy.
I want the world to know that yoga doesn’t have to be quiet to be spiritual. It doesn’t have to be rigid to be powerful. Movement, music, and mindfulness are not separate paths—they can flow together. Beats, Bass, and Breath is for the misfits, the music lovers, the deep feelers, and anyone who wants to heal and celebrate in the same breath. We’re building something here that’s not just about yoga. It’s about reimagining what wellness can feel like—raw, real, rhythmic, and alive.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Ohhh I love playing tour guide! If my best friend was in town for a week, we’d absolutely be blending good food, mountain air, local music, and intentional movement.
Maybe one day we’ll take a drive into the mountains, somewhere like Nederland or Estes Park, and spend the day playing outside, journaling, or taking epic photos. Soundtrack? All Lane 8, all day.
We definitely have to squeeze in a trip to Meow Wolf—because we need at least one mind-bending art experience. A trip to RedRocks for a show or sunrise is a must to really show off this great state.
Start the weekend with a coffee at Blue Sparrow, then I’d bring them to my Beats, Bass, and Breath class to drop in, sweat, and vibe. After class, we’ll hit up The Walnut or The Little Bodega for lunch. In the evening we can scope out some spots with live music or check out the dance floor at Beacon.
Wrap it all up with a backyard hang or picnic at Cheesman Park, maybe with friends from the community. Reflect, snack, share intentions, and celebrate a week well-lived.
Denver’s got so much more than craft beer and mountain views. The people here are creative, connected, and always down to try something new. It’s a city where you can rave till 2 AM or wake up for sunrise meditation—and I love that.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
There’s no way I could have created this without the support and inspiration of my community. First, I have to shout out my rave family—the friends who danced beside me under the stars, held space for my weirdness, and reminded me that joy is a form of healing. They helped me see that the dance floor is sacred, and that community care doesn’t have to look traditional to be powerful.
I’m deeply grateful to my mentor teacher Karson McGinley, who taught me how to blend authenticity, playfulness, and heart into my teaching. Her guidance helped me trust that I didn’t need to perform a version of a “yoga teacher”—I could just be one by being myself. Within her space, I found community – I realized that a yoga practice can be even more elevated by the amazing and inspiring individuals we practice along side. It was the place I built my foundation from—a springboard into my unique path.
And lastly, a big thank you to all the incredibly talented musicians, producers and artists—whose music cracked my heart wide open and became the emotional soundtrack to this work. Beats, Bass, and Breath wouldn’t exist without the landscapes their songs helped me access and express.
