Meet Taylor Ward | Graphic Designer, UGC Creator and Small Business Owner

We had the good fortune of connecting with Taylor Ward and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Taylor, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I started a small business back in 2021 well in college. I finished my first year of college at Kansas City Art Institute and then moved back home, once home I found out I was pregnant and it changed a lot of things. I transferred to Academy of Art Institute online studying Art Education. I not longer enjoyed that school or the degree path I was pursuing so I found Southern New Hampshire University and graduated there July of 2022 with a BA in Graphic Design and Media Arts. Even though I did this all online well raising my son as a single mother I still had all this free time to do things so I had always wanted to start a business but wasn’t sure what I would do, after having my son I enjoyed tie dying and designing things for t-shirts for him so I thought I’d turn it into a business, named it after my son, “OhSoJackson.” The products have designs of things my son loves and things I love. And that’s where it all started.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I created OhSoJackson as a business where I could share my love for design and hands on creation, the things I love about the world. Since starting the business it has been slow, it’s a challenge to get the name out there to people who want to support your business when there is so many other creative people out there. After some time doing my business I also started another business venture, that being User Generated Content Creation or for short UGC. That is where I create content for brands for their social media platforms as a creator. I have always loved content creation and wanted to incorporate that in my businesses in some way and found others doing UGC, after starting this journey I have been able to work with a few brands creating content. I want to use UGC as a way to express my love for art, design, nature and being a mother.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I visited Colorado about a month ago with a group of friends. Colorado is such a beautiful place to visit I do with I would have been able to see a few more things that I wanted to see before the trip ended. If I was to go back I would wanna go see the Red Rocks Amphitheatre, something we were not able to see well on the trip. I also would wanna take a longer hike along the Garden of the Gods well visiting there. One of the most interesting places to see well there was the Meow Wolf interactive art installations, a great place for people who love to interact with art work.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to thank my mother, throughout my journey through school and creating my own business she has always been there as one of my biggest supporters along with my father. They have supported me in my dreams and have given my the opportunity to pursue these dreams when I thought I wouldn’t be able to after having my son. I’m very grateful for them and I love them very much.
