We had the good fortune of connecting with The Zulus and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi The, what do you attribute your success to?
Honestly, the way we’ve been successful and the only way to be successful in Colorado as an artist is creativity. We’ve created our own style, unparalleled. Our group wants to stand out from the rest, therefore we’ve created a sound only comparable to us, Zulus.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
As artists in Colorado, nobody is gonna take you seriously, at least to start. If you’re any good then instead of support you’ll receive a lot of hate and the majority trying to bring you down. People made diss songs about us, slandered us on social media, refused to even listen to a song. But instead of us retaliating for the most part we kept going and tried bring up other local rappers as well. We know that other local artists don’t have to be competition. If one us makes it we all can. We want this to show that you can break through with out putting others down, you can bring everyone up with you.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If my best friend were to visit out of town first place we’re eating is at Santiago’s. By far the best Mexican restaurant I’ve had. We’d have to check out a Nuggets game and go and support the best player in the world, Nikola Jokic. Most importantly on the weekend we’d have to go to Vinyl night club and party it out, definitely my favorite club in the city.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’ve gotta give a shoutout to my uncle Royce. From day one us making music he’s always kept it real and motivated us through his excitement during our journey. Our first fan and still a huge fan to this day, we greatly appreciate his support throughout our music career.
