Meet Theresa & Steve Schirner | Head Brewer, Partner; Managing Partner

We had the good fortune of connecting with Theresa & Steve Schirner and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Theresa & Steve, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
We (Steve (husband) and Theresa (wife)) met in college and at the time were both working in restaurants. As our careers developed and the years went on we had always talked about having our place. Theresa began working at Echo Brewing in Frederick and we quickly realized that, due to its comradery, & inclusiveness, the craft beer industry was where we wanted to be. Making it a quick and easy decision to buy into Echo (now Mirror Image) when the opportunity presented itself.

What should our readers know about your business?
Frederick, Firestone, Dacono (Tri-Town) is a rural suburb outside of Longmont, CO. When Mirror Image was created we had a goal to give back and continue to build a community that was excited about enjoying a cold pint of craft beer with friends and family. As we became more involved in the company and later on purchased in to become operating partners, the sense of community could not be stronger. We have a 3 year old son who was extremely sick in his first year, & even though we were located 60 miles away at the time, the community at Mirror Image stepped in to support in any way they could. It’s this Family aspect that really drives us daily. Giving a sense of comradery and community to all that come in to enjoy.
The road to this point has not been easy. As it took longer than expected for Steve to come on board full time. Theresa handled all operations at the brewery and Steve was commuting 100 miles a day keeping his full time job to assure the success of the transition financially. Theresa and Steve have both sacrificed time with each other and their son while trying to grow the business. The challenges we had along the way is part of what makes it worth it, as there is much pride taken is the success we have also had along the way. Our biggest accomplishment to date are the two GABF medals we’ve taken home in the first two years of ownership. Theresa has truly mastered her craft as the head brewer and strives daily to make a great product. Together we will work tirelessly to create a brand and business that embodies our vision. We are excited to continue the success and grow not only together as a couple but as a business.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
There are so many amazing craft breweries in the city and most of our free time is spent visiting those breweries. When our friends come to town it is usually focused on visiting those craft breweries, eating from food trucks, all sandwiched with a show at Red Rocks or maybe even a baseball game at Coors Field.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Dennis and Daniel Richards are the founders of Echo Brewing. Together they worked with their families to create an amazing brand that has won many awards over the years and has had much success. Theresa began working as a bartender and quickly became engrossed in all facets of the brewing industry. Dennis and Daniel fostered the love for craft beer and gave opportunities for development and education. Over time our mentors became friends and then family. We cannot say enough about the Richards brothers and their support leading us to accomplish our dreams and start the next chapter in our lives.
