We had the good fortune of connecting with Christine Allen and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Christine, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I’ve had the pleasure of working with my cousin within Creative Design Construction as an Executive Assistant and laborer. Currently working with my sister within Crystals Care as an in-home health care provider. I wanted to start my own business and legacy, that my children could possibly take over one day. While also giving back to communities in need. I’ve always loved sunglasses and art, and here we are !
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
What sets me apart from others is my style, flavor, and authenticity. I’m proud of the fact that I’ve made it this far. Establishing a legitimate company, making sales, and creating social media to establish customers and following. It wasn’t easy. Registering the company was the easy part. Then came finding legit vendors, creating social media, and I’m currently working on establishing a website and making it look presentable.
Challenges I’ve been faced with is prolonging launch because of fear, making compromises about colors, and waiting on inventory. I learned that things may not be 100% perfect. You may not find that exact style or brand, but there is always alternatives.
Colors, design, inventory, and pictures all seem very easy but when presented with so many options, waiting on designer adjustments and paying for the aforementioned can be stressful, but once done leaves you euphoric and eager to do even more ! Don’t stop trying only happy mistakes ! Lessons for the future and to be passed down to others.
I want the world to know that I’m a young, beautiful, educated, black woman and mother of two…..WHO HAS…..a magnificent selection of sunglasses available, as well as one of a kind handcrafted resin pieces with Afrocentric styles.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
First day, would be spent visiting family around in various cities Denver, Lafayette, and Aurora. Second day, would be Golden and Black Hawk for some gambling, nature, and pictures. Third day, pack up and head out to Smokey Jack Observatory for camping and star gazing. Fourth day, Glenwood Springs is the destination with hot springs and Glenwood Caverns attractions. Fifth day could be girls date night. Spend the day at the museum of nature and science and have dinner at Ocean Prime. Sixth day would consist of printing pictures from our escapades and making some kind of memorabilia/art to commemorate our adventures. Final day, saying goodbye to family have lunch/brunch somewhere like Denver Diner, Waffle Bros, Welton St Café , Jim N Nicks or Pete’s Kitchen.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Nathaniel H. Jr. gave me the courage to become a legitimate business and actually sell product that interests me. Msu Denver for currently giving me my education which uplifts every aspect of my life. My mother Diane, my sister Crystal, friend Jeresa, friend Copeland, Step mom Rosetta, my father Harry and his wife Carolyn, and Mary Montgomery for believing in me no matter what. Saginaw, MI for making my core, and Denver, CO for such a delicate evolution. Finally, my two children Christyana and Christopher. My heart, my life and my future, I DO IT FOR YOU.
