We had the good fortune of connecting with Thomas Davis and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Thomas, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
My journey into the world of electronics started in Las Cruces, New Mexico, where I grew up. A science fair project in the 8th grade ignited my passion for building distortion pedals. Under the guidance of a skilled mentor, I deepened my understanding of electronics and began building and repairing my own guitar amplifiers.

Filament Amp Works, established in 2018, specializes in repairing and building custom guitar amplifiers. I prioritize transparency with clients, ensuring that I only take on repairs I can complete to the highest standards. My extensive experience repairing hundreds of amps has given me a unique perspective on tone, volume, and versatility. This knowledge informs my custom amplifier designs, which are crafted with reliability, power, and a wide range of tonal options.

Filament Amp Works is more than just a business; it’s a passion project that allows me to share my love of electronics and music with the Denver community. I’m grateful for the opportunity to serve musicians of all levels and create amplifiers that inspire and empower their creativity.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Filament Amp Works grew out of a passion for electronics, and was founded on the principle that amplifier repair should be a type of business that prioritizes transparency and communication with clients, while pursuing the highest degree of workmanship possible. One of the greatest hurdles I experienced as a business owner was navigating the pandemic. I was forced to create safe but innovative ways to communicate and interact with clients. This led to contactless amp drop offs and pick ups, creating an online calendar for scheduling and building online presence for the business. I have learned that adaptation is a necessary factor to any brand surviving economic and social changes.
I want the world to know that Filament is a resilient and enduring brand, one that symbolizes high quality work.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Denver has fantastic food options, some of my favorites are Rioja, Matsuhisa, Kawa Ni, Bastiens and La Doña. For drinks, my favorite spots have been ESP, High Lonesome, and HiDive.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Any success I have earned is due to the endless support and encouragement from my wife, Abbey. She has also stepped in on countless occasions to help run street team efforts for small business markets, represent the brand and offer insight. We make a great team!
