We had the good fortune of connecting with Thomas Fisher and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Thomas, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
Consistency.
As a business owner, consistency in all aspects is essential to success. We have to meet deadlines, communicate with clients, post on social media, and manage the company on a daily basis. These tasks can get overwhelming when doing everything individually. The best way to stay consistent in business is by having the right team. My team allows me to focus on scaling the company and gives me assurance that tasks are getting done on time.
On the personal side, I try to be productive for at least an hour a day, even on off days. There are days when I don’t live up to this, but having this mindset of consistency pushes me to get more work done and to hold myself accountable.
Consistency is key. Keep pushing forward.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Bomb Visuals has grown into a collective, a group of like-minded creatives that have a passion for making music videos. With editors all over North America, we strive to make each video unique and better than the last. My goal for the company is to expand to other countries and travel the world doing what I love.
I’m most proud of the connections I’ve been able to make over the years. I have worked with so many talented artists and creatives and feel lucky to be a part of their journey. Without them, I wouldn’t be where I am today. This job is not easy, and definitely not for everyone, but if you have good communication skills and like being 1 on 1 with artists, it’s one of the most rewarding careers out there in terms of happiness and fulfillment. I get to wake up every day, schedule my own hours, and work with some pretty cool people.
Along the way, I’ve learned a lot of lessons about business, sometimes the hard way. One thing I really had to learn was communication skills. When you’re working with someone you met on social media, it can be hard for them to trust you in terms of the delivery of their music video. Keeping consistent communication and setting reasonable deadlines is a surefire way to make sure they are kept happy.
Another thing I had to learn is to delegate tasks. Some tasks take up a large portion of your day and should be hired out to save time. Selling is the lifeblood of a business. Focusing on sales brings more revenue to the business so you can continue to hire out tedious tasks and focus on what’s important.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Eat – Lazy Moon (giant slices of pizza)
Drink – Tanqueray’s (underground bar) or RockPit Brewing
Visit – Universal Studios
Hang Out – by the pool, grilling burgers, drinking Whiskey
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
There are an endless amount of people I can attribute my success to. However, I would like to give a shoutout to a select few people.
To Izzy; you are the reason I started this business, and I am forever grateful for your words of encouragement and motivation. Without you, I would not have been introduced to the industry I have come to love. Thank you.
To Allesandro, my editor and closest partner in business over the past 3 years; thank you for all the work you have done. You have given me the ability to scale my business and have provided skill and effort beyond expectations for the clients we have worked with. I see a bright future ahead for you and am excited to see where your journey takes you.
To my mother and father; you both have endlessly supported my decision to start a business and not work a “stable job”. Without your support, I would not be as confident in myself as I am today. I love you both and am forever thankful for the way you raised me to be independent.
